Don't get FF XII.

People are nagging about the lack of character in X, you obviously haven't played XII.
The villain is ****.
The quest is ****.
All characters except 2 in the entire game will fail to amuse you.
The thought to skip cutscenes will appear many times as people are always stating something very obvious in a very stupid way.
The battle system is as hard as using CPU controlled characters only. Make some gambits(CPU commands) and they can beat the final boss on their own.
Everything about FFXII is hate except the nostalgic battle against Gilgamesh.

So don't get FFXII, it's probably the worst FF ever made.
FFX-2 had a good battle system at least and a lot of different classes. The story was "Charlie's angels gone fantasy" but it's better than FFXII's "Nothing interesting happens in this game".

Prpl is completely right. I don't know why people are slashing at FFX like
angry comatose wolves. I think it's a great game with huge character diversity,
loads of strategy needed, loads of gameplay, great soundtrack and a compelling story.
I played it for weeks without stopping and lost the majority of my friends.

FFXII is like an MMORPG, but single player. When in battle, you simply have to
stand completely still until the enemy/enemies are dead. It's incredibly boring.
I appreciate the time gone into it and the lovely soundtrack, but it's a complete
chore.

To myownpath: Didn't play the Kingdom Hearts series. Also, Devil May Cry ain't an RPG, it's a real-deal beat 'em up.

To Prpl and Zuhane: I think I agree with you on this one. I haven't beaten this game and haven't even gotten far in this game, but for as far as I played, I can't remember anything memoriable about the characters. Also, playing the games feels a lot like playing World of Warcraft to be honest.

Did I mention the Phantasy Star games yet? Save for Universe, they're all great RPGs that merit a look. Sure, III tanked, but IV makes up for it.

Also, I remember someone saying the .hack// series on the PS2, I second that. The funest offline MMORPG out there.

About FFX, I didn't expect myself to like it by the end. The beginning was slow and strange and Tidus was a total whiny bitch. I almost quickly wrote it off as a game where graphics took over gameplay and fun.

But, somewhere around the middle, it began to grow on me. The game designers did a lot of good things to make Spira seem like a coherent, well-planned feasable world. So many RPGs have kingdoms sitting next to eachother that have been around for a 1000 years but are completely different cultures, but FFX avoided that trap. There was a lot of evidence that Spira was a world where people moved around and shared ideas, be it from the intermixing of the races, the Blitzball games, and the constant Sin attacks.

Regarding Seymour, he was just a bitter undead. He wasn't even the real villain. I personally liked all the hypocritical stuff he did. Same with the Yevon church banning machines but having a whole standing army of them from the time they destroyed Zanarkand until the present. That was pretty cool.

The love story was sorta weird, but I give them credit for going as far with it as they did. A lot of so-called RPG love stories involve two people that can't even look eachother in the eye, much less have a (very odd) make out session in some forest pool.

Now, the game had its problems, no doubt. A lot of the characters (Wakka, Rikku) were deeply annoying and never shut up. The point-and-click airship was disapointing. The ultimate weapon upgrade quests were pain incarnate. The ending was wildly unsatisfying. But overall, by the time was over, I had liked more than I disliked. Spira was a pretty cool place after all.

Wakka did talk to much, but I didn't mind Rikku, being the cute girl she is =P.

Also, the point-and-click-airship isn't as fun as flying around on a world map, but it was something new. I still prefer flying around the world map though.

The ultimate weapons are a pain to get, a serious pain. Especially Lulu and Wakka *shakes fists*.

The ending wasn't what you hoped to be. *SPOILER* Nope, no happy ending for this game. Auron is dead and "fades away" (*sniff*, my favourite character) and Tidus just... dissapears from existence. But the ending still had a special touch for me somewhere. Maybe it's just that, when I first beat it, I was kind of sick of the happy endings. Most games of that time only had happy endings and a change was nice. But damn, too many games nowadays have a crap unhappy ending. *cough*FEAR*cough*DeadSpace*cough*

*SPOILER END*

Unhappy endings? Try searching youtube for "Chrono Trigger Day of Lavos Ending"

THAT actually gave people nightmares when it was first released. That would make it the grandaddy of unhappy endings.

Yeah, but I'm not so sure how you can compare LOLDEEP endings like Dead Space's with "Nice job breaking it, Hero" endings like Day of Lavos".

Chrono Trigger DS.

If you don't play it, you're a communist, a jihadist, and an anarchist.

And I DARE you to say anything bad about the plot. I will come to your house and stab you.

I played it. Nothing wrong with the plot, but the new dungeons made the game way too easy.
