dog husbandry.

Bitches? Oh I am crazy about bitches. I'm into bird-watching too, of late; it's beautiful to see a fully plumed weenie in mating season. My love of animals stems from early childhood readings of moby dick. You know, the one who swallows all the seamen?

Oh jesus. What have we here?

For what it's worth I'll give you a history lesson:

Alex's original instructions were that threads should be allowed to live so long as they served some purpose. Locking would be used as a last resort. Sai kept that policy too.

The reason we changed the policy is because charas became very spammy and several members called for harsher moderation towards off topic threads. This is why we promoted Drag and Bluhman. Their jobs were to be 'hard' mods. (Some people, particularly Grandy, have complained that the decision was made without consulting the majority of the members and that a large percentage of the members liked charas the way it was before the harsher rules. Grandy believed we plucked this 'members wanted change' from practically nowhere. By the way Grandy, if it was someone else that said this, then sorry :p)

We have to decide now where we want charas to go. There've been a few complaints about the stricter modding and since we're such a small forum, the opinions of a few members can actually bring about a lot of change.

I'm finding it hard to swing one way or the other regarding the argument but I've gotta admit that the rm2k element of the forum, and in the internet in general, has pretty much dried up. If hardly anyone wants to talk about rm2k3, locking off topic threads so that they don't bury the on topic rm2k threads seems a little pointless. I believe that the moderator's job on forums like charas is to make sure everyone has fun and is able to have fun. If spam is threatening to spoil the more serious member's fun, it should be kept in check. If moderation methods are actually making the forum less fun overall, then they should be reconsidered.

Simple. We get mod consensus. Not all of them, but if at least two/three agree to have a thread locked, then lock away.

Except for the obvious flaming/attack, spambot, rule-breaking threads.

By the way, isn't this whole thing why we have a mayor? For members to discuss with and have insight onto the problems of Charas?
