What about emulators and RM2k3 made games? Any trouble there? I'm thinking about reinstaling my emulators after I check out what they have availible in ROMs now. Hopfuly the've translated Romacing Saga (SNES), that looked so good and then when I finaly got one it was all in japanese :(

Anyway back on topic. From what you guys have said it sounds like Vista is okay and probly my only option right now since all the cheap computers i'm looking at have it.

Hey! I have my old XP disc, couldn't I use that to install XP on my new computer? Or will that not work?

Vista can't handle any recent games with music on in the background.
It can also occasionally freeze while people are contacting you on msn - and you're playing something.
Vista can't show GIF animations correctly.
Old games don't work properly on Vista. Like worms, Monkey island and so on.
Vista doesn't really work well with Hamachi so you and your buddies' LAN weekend can get very complicated if you are supposed to host.
Something must be wrong with your computer, all of that works fine on my computer

Emulators work fine on my Vista

And I personally don't know about the XP installation, as I am not a computer guru, despite what my family thinks

Vista was more to impress people with these new features, while not really enhancing any of the old ones.
I like XP, I find it slightly faster, but I feel disorganized.
Vista makes me feel more ... better, but it also feels a bit slower.

Think of Vista as a beautiful, stunning girl. But imagine that the girl has severe learning difficulties.

Vista can't show GIF animations correctly.

Lies and slander.

Seriously though, I'm pretty sure it depends on what you're using to view the GIF.

I honestly forgot that MSPaint existed, due to the fact that I never use it...so correct me if I'm wrong, but can't Paint not view gifs as an animation?

I quite honestly forgot if paint can use layers

No it can't. That's why I use game maker to animate my drawings and stuff. Okay i'm down to two computers now

Vostro 220 and the Optiplex 360. The first one (the Vostro 220) is only 349$ and comes with Vista and the other one (the Optiplex) wich comes with windows XP profesional.

Oh and Sound Recorder is rubbish on Vista. I had to download seperate voice recording software. They've removed all the functions... God knows why.

This is very true, although to be fair nobody who wants to record sound uses Sound Recorder anyway.

To clear things up:

The basic (double click a BMP/PNG/JPEG file) program in Vista does not show an animation.
It simply show the first "page". (Windows photogallery or someshit).

To see an animated GIF you need to open the file with Media player.
And if the background is transparent: you will see all the other poses underneath the current one.
So it's all just a blur.
So really see an animation like it's supposed to be on Vista you need to use IE or Irfnaview. At least for me.

--------------------
And Media player+World of Warcraft= freeze.
Sometimes it happens. Sometimes it don't.
Media player loads so friggin slow on vista that it's breaking my balls in two. And once i get it working, the computer freezes with any demanding full screen game.

Oh yeah. My Vista can't handle RPGM2k3 in full screen either. It's just a black screen. I need to play by pressing F4 at the menu and get like ½ screen.
