I'm working with a friend on making a game like Portal/Warioware/Paper Mario/Final Fantasy 10 which probably sounds
absolutely insane. I have BIG plans for this one. I'm doing all the programming and he's spriting everything. Gonna make
my own music, sound effects, menu, CBS, CMS... basically it's 100% made by us except for the 2k3 engine.

Good for you.  Some guys are pretty hard-headed.  It must suck pretty hard being a chick sometimes because of all the guys hitting on you 24/7 and about 90% of them being ignorant perverts.

It's like the sequel HoMM III never had.

HoMM IV is forever the black sheep of hereos games.
The 5th takes back the old concepts of creature levels and factions.

But the latest expansions offers the "alternative uppgrade" meaning that every unit have two different units to be upgraded into. And if you upgrade it to one kind you can reupgrade it fro half the cost to the other.
The differences between the alternative upgrades is just a matter of taste.  Like Sylvan(rampart)'s hunters. They can either be Master Hunters with double shot and a chance to stun opponents. Or Arcane Hunters with No range penalty and a chance to knock back. The stats are also a bit different but otherwise pretty much the same. A matter of taste.

The game have 4 good factions and 4 evil factions. Fortress and Stronghold were neutral to begin with but where placed into one group each after complains from fans.
There are 7 creature levels like the good old days instead of 5 like in HoMM IV.

The heroes have turns in battle where they can use spells now. A compromise between the old way and HoMM IV. The creatures could invoke the hero's spells during their turns in earlier games while the hero was a unit that could attack, move and die in HoMM IV.
Now, the hero's turn come, he can either use his Attack stat to attack a unit(like a spell, but non-magical damage) or open up that spellbook and send some spells at them. The hero cannot die in battle since it's standing outside the battlefield. And defeat is like defeat in HoMMIII, all units are dead.

Other than that, I think it's more or less an upgraded and updated version of HoMMIII.

Yeah? That's good. I loved HoMM III but dodged out on HoMM IV when all the bad reivews to the changes started pouring in.

The optional upgrades sound really interesting. One of the things I love about the HoMM series was that almost every unit has some special ability so it's a bit more than just a numbers game.
