I played a little of it before I glitched up after talking to Jade...my character just froze. I had just tried to access the To Do list, but the cursor wouldn't budge. May have been related. Anyone else had this problem?

This looks very promising, although I obviously didn't get a chance to do much beyond a bit of lockpicking and talking to NPC's. I love the lockpicking "game." Very nice job. I'm anxious to see how it escalates in difficulty as the game progresses. The environments are well laid-out with lots of levels. And while I don't count myself a fan of cyberpunk, you seem to have captured the grungy atmosphere with a sense of humor.

My only criticisms...Be wary of spelling. If you're a grammar nut like I am, a misspelled word can ruin the effect (I spotted a typo seconds into the game). And some of the charsets were obviously generated and rather poor quality. This is forgivable, since you obviously need to make a ton of NPC's, but it wouldn't hurt to take a minute or two to touch generated sets up a bit (especially characters like hookers with very little clothing...the generator's naked base unfortunately doesn't have shading and so it looks flat). Oh, and some of the options in conversation seem veeeery similar, like you can only say one thing but have three ways to say it....although you may have been going for that for humor.

I've never heard of anyone having problems with the To Do List, and I didn't find any problems with it during testing. Did the game just freeze completely..? Would it be possible for you to try and reproduce the error..?

Anyway. I did do a lot of spellchecking throughout testing but it is pretty hard to catch everything; I'd like to think that the spelling is better than your average homebrew game but, yeah, there are some errors in there and I'm going to be trying to fix up small things like that when I get around to making v1.1. On the other hand, small graphical issues don't bother me at all; I am really a mapping/eventing man so problems with those I'd love to hear about!

The game didn't freeze in the sense that the screen was completely frozen. I could still open the menu, I just couldn't move the character. I'll try to reproduce it when I get home. All I did was open the To Do list after talking to Jade.

I agree with Valiere's graphic complaints plus these
The first one after the message box the soldiers messed up, the rabbit girls are just so out of place the bodies don't match at all and just annoys the hell out of me. The third I guess that supposed to be paint everywhere but yeh its doens't look like it like blobs of color out of place on the walls.

Gameplay the hacking lockpicking is fine and ok but the game itself is no offense so boring.
I keep pushing myself to play because I find it so boring its like a chore.

I like how you have alot of side quests but they all seem to be the same go here get this come back.
Would it have been to hard to add maybe a littel story to them or make them diffrent.
So far its just not a gripping game more of a run of mill game that I won't finish.
I'll try to keep playing but everytime I do I lose more energy to play it.
It reminds me of Assasin's Creed as in I can only play it in short bursts before I lose interest.

Thats all for now.

I can't even stand the first scene because it has so much flashing. Sorry I can't give you a good review.

Version 1.1 Released...

Some people found a bug that was totally game-breaking so I just released this patch quickly to get that fixed. The two small fixes are:

  • Fixed game-crashing explosion scene.
  • Fixed Scan skill. No longer scans dead enemies.

No offence, but videogames often have a lot of flashing scenes. I don't really see how this is a problem.

Did you open the menu whilst the cutscene was still happening, because it sounds like you did? It usually isn't a problem but sometimes it can screw things up when the characters are trying to move around as you do it. I'm well aware of this bug but fixing it would require going through every event in the game and adding a tag at the start and end to stop the menu opening up and that would be extremely time consuming.

It's a front-view battle system...

@Nandez: Like I said, small graphical errors like those don't really concern me. If they do annoy you that much then I can only apologise as I won't be changing the graphics for those characters or scenes. As for the quests, I know they are fairly linear but they're only really meant to be a route towards getting more experience and cash under your belt. Alternatively, you could fight the same monster ten times in a row for the experience boost, but you don't get cash from your average monster in this game so there had to be a way to make money as well - hence the quests.

Fish has epilepsy. Too much flashing could trigger a seizure, or could kill him. :/

I think that's what happened. I didn't realize there was an event going on, so I managed to pop open the menu before it happened, which evidently messed everything up.

Oh well.

I have a friend who has it, we have to cover his eyes in the movie theater sometimes so it doesn't give him seizures.  I think you may want to put a disclaimer or something.

Yeah that's what i have to do too. I can't watch most movies and I have to manually remove the flashing battle animations from other people's games somtimes.

Important: Version 1.2 is totally fucked up.

I didn't announce this here, so people here might not have downloaded it, but if you downloaded Version 1.2 of Sore Losers then the starting position is in the wrong place. This means that when you start the game you actually start ~6 hours into the storyline. Obviously, this means the balance is totally off and that the game doesn't make any sense.

For anyone whose time this wasted, I really do apologise.

I will be uploading a fixed version to RMN soon (Version 1.3). The gamepage dissapeared due to a freak bug over at RMN but I am working on it and the new page should be accepted soon. As soon as it is I will fix the links in the main post of this topic. Alternatively, if you have the know-how and you have RM2000 handy, you can fix this problem by moving the Hero Start Position to the map called Opening Sequence; the rest of the game is unaffected by this bug, it is just the starting position that is wrong (this also means that if you downloaded it and used a previous save-file then the bug doesn't affect you unless you are attempting to start a new game).

Again, I am really ****ing sorry.

Well, I tried it. The battle system seriously killed me from having any real enjoyment. The towns were nicely set up and all, but I got sick of battling and finally ended up getting killed.
