I didn't realize that your appetite counted as a lifestyle.
not sure if to regard that as a fat joke or not.

Aye, but I don't think they'd raise one cow less if you stopped eating one cow.Whereas if you ate one cow, it would be one cow less for this polluted world.

That gas is coming out one way or another. Unless we launch all cows into space, that gas is getting in our atmosphere, even if we genocide the cows.

I'm not worried about Swine flu, but that doesn't mean I'm not taking it seriously. It has the potential to be disastrous, but there's nothing I can do about it and we get these sorts of scares now and then. Unless the scientists tell us to change our lifestyles to avoid the virus, the best thing to do is forget about it and let them do their job. Oh, and make sure you go to the doctor if you get ill, since I guess there's a chance that catching it early will give you a better hope of curing it. That last bit's pretty uninformed, though, since I don't know much about swine flu yet...

And on the subject of vegetarianism, It's actually sensible to make the switch to veg and nuts and stuff. The amount of food it takes to feed a cow, for instance, just so that it can be turned into a few meals, means that meat is horrifically inefficient cnsidering the amount of people on earth. We're somehow coping now by allowing lots of people in other countries to starve, but if we really want to be able to feed everyone without enforcing reproduction limiting laws then we might have to become vegetarians sometime in the distant future.

But chicken sure is tasty.

Sure, it's more efficient and healthier, but it's a compromise. With vegetarianism (or veganism, if you want to omit any animal food source), you lose the option of the very, very tasty meat. That's a world of food possibilities out the window. For the South Park viewers, this same ideology is presented in the episode where everyone ate from their asses and crapped from their mouths. The officials said that it was in every way better for them, but in the end, it was still a compromise that any rational person wouldn't accept (not that I'm calling vegetarians or vegans irrational). There's a balance that the average person should maintain, and that balance is currently very off. Meat makes up far too much of our meals, and junk foods (which often contain animal byproducts) fill in all the gaps. All the health-related issues of meat can be resolved, or severely improved, by balancing the meat-vegetable balance of our diets (as well as preparing foods in ways that aren't as heart-dangerous as frying everything).

I love food. I love meat. I love fried meat. But I'm also a sensible person. My favorite meal will contain rice. I love rice more than meat. A sensible meal would take note of this fact, and serve a meal of mostly rice and vegetables with a portion of meat. Healthy, delicious, and meat-bearing. Once the general population catches on to this, animal-based pollution will decrease (smaller demand for meat, since the average servings will be decreased), and healthier food options will come into play. Meat shouldn't be removed completely, but rather used in moderation (like alcohol). Did you know that a glass of red wine every day can improve your health? Don't go overboard, and you'll be better off. Meat follows the same rule.

Oh, I agree. Like I said, I love chicken. I love pepperoni on my pizza. I love noobs. I wouldn't personally give up meat; I'm just pointing out that it's the logical choice.

I love rice, too. And anything tomato based.

I don't even know why we're arguing about vegetarianism. I was just joking about expressing contempt for you meat-eaters. I really don't care what you eat.

In other news, to the surprise of no one Texas gets the honorary first US death from swine flu (and a toddler at that). The kid apparently had spent some time in Mexico and crossed over into a border town.

Methinks they need to do a bit better of a job of keeping swine flu out of the US than asking Mexicans, "Have you felt sick lately?"

I am fairly immune to it (not completely, which sucks but meh), so I'm not really worried. Also, I don't like pork and most meats anyways. Oh yah, enjoy your lethal nigh-on-pandemic virus.

HMMM THIS SOUNDS WELL-RESEARCHED I THINK I SHALL CHANGE MY ENTIRE LIFESTYLE!
Why would I ever do research.
IIRC mushrooms are like the only alternative nonanimal that has protein in it, and there are only so many mushroom meals you can have. And they all go with beef, anyway. And meat is so much easier. Thousands upon thousands of various livestock are slaughtered daily, and now I'm no animal sympathiser, but I'm not going to let their sacrifice go in vain. I'm not going to let their deaths be unnecessary.

I'm sure there's a few more tangents I wanted to go off on but I've been up for like 20 minutes and I'd be surprised if this house was any more than 10degrees C

Wasn't this retconned to a glass of beer?

Or maybe that's just AUSTRALIAN scientists.

Cow farts and burps are a massive contributor to greenhouse gases. No joke. I have considered becoming a vegetarian for this reason.

DID YOU FAIL TO REALIZE THAT COWS ARE VEGETARIANS???

Endemic Level 5! Whooo!
I'm not worried, but I do take it seriously. Strangely, most cases of death due to this disease have occurred in healthy adults rather than young children and the elderly. At any rate, it's mostly just a flu. Treat it like any other, and chances are you'll get rid of it. If not, then you may need to consult a doctor :P

Well it doesn't really matter since I get all my protein from meat.
I'm going to raise the teeth argument now.

I never thought this was an argument so much as it was an intellectual series of commenting on meat and how some of it is pork (no less than one-third).
