A Question; Advice for Noobs
« on: May 09, 2009, 05:49:25 AM »
Do you guys ever consider altering something so you don't have to request the exact match?
For example, changing a Charset because there's already a Battlecharset for it, or changing your CBS because there's already a tutorial?

Oh yeah. My (Game Maker) battle system started out as a living hell to program, but then I found a platforming engine called Sparkengine, so I adapted what I was currently using for that
Then I found a nifty tutorial for using the Zelda style Heart Health system, so I started using that
And then, I found a really cool textbox engine that actually has the facesets talking, so again, I'm currently wrestling with that to get it to work
Now I'm changing variables because I found out how to map in GM with 2k3 chips, so the tile size has changed from 32^2 to 16*2.
So yeah...changing things can be a very good idea in certain situations.

I would classify that as advice.

Well, obviously the more crafted and skilled you become the less and less you feel the need to do that. Or the want. So yeah, it's pretty acceptable to do. I mean, 90% of us are, in reality, only practacing.
