A World On Edge (RP) - INN
« on: May 17, 2009, 04:18:47 PM »
I figured it was about time we had a good RP on here again, so I'm starting one right now.  Post a character if you're interested and willing to stick with this.  You could also include a DP that is relevant to the setting or the plot if you want, but keep in mind that they will not be your main character, and won't need as much detail.  I'd really like to get 7-10 people in this, if possible, and I think that leaving this as an open idea can really let it go far.  So, here it is.

A World On Edge
=====

Onset:

Tensions have, in recent times, grown between the east and west, between the Redner Kingdom and the Holy Terin Empire.  As border disputes turn into territorial quarreling, violence rests beneath a thin layer of civility, and order along the two nations’ border becomes harder to maintain with each moment.  Citizens, fearing expulsion from their homes, are restless, and militants, fearing attack, react harshly on both sides.  In the heart of these two lands, advisors meet to plan for counterattacks, and, unfortunately, preemptive strike plans as well.  In the south, at the tail of the Great Divide mountain range, the Lied Hegemony watches with unease, finally deciding to send emissaries to each nation in hopes of mediation.

=====

Dramatis Personae:

Renault du Chartier:
  The leader of the collective Hegemony, he has been in power for 6 years and thus far has proved a very capable leader after a short campaign against the ‘Sand People’ of the deserts of the south, as well as expanding the economic success of Lied, the central state of the Hegemony.

Arnold Bonaparte:
  Emissary to the Holy Terin Empire.  A very cheerful and personable man, perfect for his occupation.

Carmen Wegner:
  King of Redner, a cautious man who has, in his 12 years, lead no military campaigns.  However, many advances in engineering and architecture have been made under his banner, and so some success has been had at his hands.

Archbishop Marco Tchekova:
  Elected head of the Terin Church and thus leader of the Holy Empire, his views have been labeled ‘fanatical’ and ‘zealous’ by some, ‘fundamentalist’ by others.  He has sent not only missionaries but small campaigns to the furthest known corners to find converts to ‘share the faith’ and to annex small territories into the Empire.  His has been a time of great expansion, and he has attracted both zealots and glory-seekers to the Empire’s ranks.

Bishop Cassius Valier:
  Tchekova’s closest advisor, and the catalyst behind the expansion of the Empire.  Unbeknownst to others, his sphere of influence goes far outside the chambers of the monastic city he and the Archbishop reside.

======
Character

Francis Meridius LaRue
Age: 27
Physical: 5’11”, 163 lbs.  Fair skin, dark hair, beard.
Occupation:  Bodyguard of Arnold Bonaparte.
Personality:  Strong, direct, a man of few words but poignant and polite.  Men close to him describe him as honorable and courteous.
Equipment:  Long sword, light-plated shield, breast plate with vambrance on left shoulder.  On formal occasions, long cape and feathered cap.
Bio:  Born to a healthy family, Francis Meridius LaRue was gifted with many oppurtunities as a young man.  Having shown initial talent as a swordsman, he enlisted in the Hegemony’s Collective Army at 17, and served for six years as a foot soldier.  After 3 years, he was deployed to the south to campaign against the Sand People, who had made several strikes against the southern-most states and several of the oasis-based colonies that had been established under their banners.  For the next three years, LaRue spent half his time killing these men and the other half coming to know and understand their culture.  During this time, his father came to know several key figures in the lower-lying hierarchy of the central power structure of the Hegemony and one important and genial man: Arnold Bonaparte.  When Bonaparte’s bodyguard died, the senior LaRue suggested earnestly that his son take the late man’s place, to which Bonaparte readily agreed after hearing some of the stories Francis’ father told him, some more true than others.  For the last four years now, Francis has served Bonaparte, and saved his life several times.

Serd Ulmarcke
Age: 30
Physical: 6'0", 154 lbs. Fair skin, black shoulder-length hair, slicked back. No facial hair.
Occupation: Poisoner and alchemist.
Personality: Stoic and secretive. Lives alone, and prefers to work as such. Focuses on business and little else, but has an interest in politics and always desires to learn.
Equipment: Dark grey hooded robe, with light clothing worn underneath. Carries a curved longsword (tulwar) at his belt, but is no sword expert. Main weapon is a bandolier-type belt worn over his shoulder which carries a number of thin daggers - each one rests in a vial containing a few drops of a selected poison.
Bio: The son of a spy and a doctor, Serd witnessed the tools of killing and curing on a daily basis. As tensions between nations grew, and his father was sent on increasingly perilous missions, Serd's mother grew fearful, and so began producing poisons which would help her husband work while avoiding danger. Serd came to learn the trade, and when his parents decided he should be sent away to prevent danger to him, he travelled to the poor district of Redner's capital, acquired a house, and set about continuing his parents' trade. He insists that he is no murderer; he merely stays in the shadows and mixes poisons, to be bought for whatever purpose they might serve. However, despite his principles, and his attempts to keep his work undercover, he has still received lucrative offers from high-ranking nobles who want someone to do their dirty work for them.

Maybe I could set aside half an hour a day to check up on this if other people are still willing to join in.

Kahl Bremmer
Age: 36
Physical: 5'5", 165 lbs.  Fair skin, dark-grey hair. Rather short and genetic boldness is starting to show, long sideburns though.
Occupation: Scholar and writer.
Personality:  Enthusiastic to everything that the world have to offer, he seeks knowledge and enlightenment wherever he goes and can go pretty far to find out something new.
He takes little notice to ordinary people but spends a lot of time analysing and studying important or odd people. Anything that isn't like everything else needs to be studied for better understanding.  He is also quite arrogant and self-righteous.

Equipment: A bag of books from different big writers. A long beige scholar's robe and a tanned cloak with hood.
Mainly carries a long sharp dagger. But actual skill at using it for anything else than sneak-attacks and performing autopsy is questionable.
Bio: Kahl Bremmen was born in a wealthy family. He quickly found interest in history and geography - reading nearly every book he could find in the town's library. Everything about the world excited him and he wanted to go out into the world and find out about all the things that he couldn't read in books. He then set out at the age of 28 and travelled the world and its many corners. He watched creatures and flowers and also gathered some for his collections.
He took note of everything and released a book of his work at the age of 33. But Kahl Bremmen lost his purpose in life after the book. He believed that he had found out about everything and that there was nothing more to be learned.
Then the Lied Hegemony fought and conquered the sand people in which he followed the events. He soon realized that history had to be written and he was the perfect man for the job.
He's now writing as fast as he can as the tension between the two large countries grow and also hopes that the confrontation will be one worthy of his pen.
