Well, I just had an idea.

Since the news board seems to go for long periods of time without any news, why not have someone put up a bulletin each month with general news on the forum?  Said individual could list new demos, tutorials, updated galleries, or anything else of general interest to keep people 'in the know'.

We used to. But then - well no games to put up.
We also had some music contest some time back, and Linkforce wanted to make a Mapping contest.
But some people never start their contests or manage them as they should.

It's sort of awkward to run a front-page newspost because the people with the ability to post on the front page are too busy or too absent.

I used to do the game of the month thing. I did it so that things seemed more active.
I would still do it if i had access to that specific board...and was still, like, active.

But i only really come around to facepalm epically shitty threads, and to witness any awesome-bombs that a select couple of people may have dropped.
But this place is pretty lame lately. Through no fault of the staff. Seriously....most of our newer regulars are giant fags.

Well, this wouldn't just be a single category.  It would be like a culmination of all important or interesting news, so that things people may have missed are brought to their attention, and so on and so forth.  We could even go so far as to post polls for what people want to see happen the following month, or whichever contest/game they liked, or which recent tutorials they found most helpful.

This probably sounded cooler in my head, but whatever.  I think it's a good idea, and not just because it was mine partially inspired by Xtremophile's idea. Obviously, this way would be more accessible to members, especially those with slow speed internetz, as it would be just another page on the forum.

As a serious question:  What are the disadvantages of said news page?

It's not that there are disadvantages. The thing is, there is not much going on lately. Or well, not enough for a Charas Newscast.

What would we say? The rare contests we have end up with not enough participants, like pretty much everything else, actually. And there's not much beside that. At least that's what I've observed around here.

This could've work if Charas was a huge community with like 100+ members online daily, but with an average of like 10 members online daily, there's not much to say.
