Zombie Robots
« on: July 15, 2009, 02:01:22 AM »
WHAT THE ****?!?!
Why would someone come up with that?
Yeah, it's practical in the battlefield...but it is just so...wrong...on SOOO many levels.

EDIT: Changed the title.

I agree. However, it makes you think - the article goes on to say that

"Upon the EATR platform, the Pentagon could build all sorts of things — a transport, an ambulance, a communications center, even a mobile gunship."

Makes me think of Terminator, with machines stalking and killing mankind. However, it would almost be like robot zombies. That would be a cool game or movie, come to think of it. Some sort of corruption in the robot's directive, making it think that all humans are hostiles, so they endlessly search for any organic material to feed off of, leaving the world a complete wasteland of dirt and rock. The machines could shut down and wait for a curious or foolish human to approach, and then awake with the last reserves of energy and consume them.

FOR THOSE WHO SAY TL;DR, read below.

I do agree that it is unorthodox, and inhuman. But in these resource-deprived times, it is a scary reality that humanity would turn to using our environment as a resource, and even ourselves as a resource.

Like I said, it could evolve into something frightening. I call dibs right now on making a game, maybe even incorporating it into the one I'm working on right now.

Practical and awesome, yes. Immoral and a step closer to Skynet, yes.

Likely to get government approval? No. The mass outcry at the mutilation of human corpses would get the thing banned almost anywhere that it shows up. I'm aware that it's not just human corpses that it can use, but the fact that human corpses are included is all it will take to get it shot down *chuckle*.

You don't even have to use corpses. If you wanted, you could give the damn thing your shirt.
All it really needs is organic material.
The fact that there is an apparently massive amount of energy in a human corpse means that that can be viable to use.
So, unfortunately (or not, I'm kinda hung), this thing will probably be banned.

...
I think it'd be pretty weird if this thing developed into cars...
"Hey, what's your car run on?"
"My grandma."

It eats Biomass. Which includes dead things. Im thinking it would rely on things like vegetation and wood and gasoline. The title of Zombie robot sounds like a bit of a jump

I'm just focusing what other people are apparently focusing on.
I'm pretty sure the person who presented this and accidentally said "Military applications" probably kicked himself in the *** later.

It runs on steam. They can make cars that run on steam too. The machine presumable would generate water from biomasses. It seems to have some sort of crazy hybrid engine, that uses Gas and electricity as well. From what I understand, theres cars that do all of that.
They just dont have the device attached to suck up roadkills and use them for food.
