Top 5 game music
« on: August 16, 2009, 12:38:47 PM »
What are the best videogame music you ever heard? I dont really pay attention to music when playing, but some of them are just awesome.

5- Harvest Moon: Back To Nature (PS): Fall Theme
4- Worms Armageddon (PS/PC): Title Screen
3- Harvest Moon: Back To Nature (PS): Title Screen
2- Mega Man 2 (NES): Wily's Stage 1-2
1- Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Genesis): Sky Sanctuary Zone
Bluhman did a cool thing with that last one

X (possibly two) - Dark Cloud 2 (PS2): Gundorada Workshop
X - Super Metroid (SNES): Norfair Depths
X - Devil May Cry 3 (PS2): Cerberus Fight
X - Okage: Shadow King (PS2): The What-The-Fuckery of Guten Kisling
1 - Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura: The Demise of the I.F.S. Zephyr

*This is my favorite game, and has one of the best soundtracks ever. This song is just at around the top.

*It's Metroid, come on! The songs here kick ***, and this is just one of the best.

*Very fun fight, made mainly so because of the awesome song you were fighting to...by itself, it's kind of...ugh, but in-context, it's awesome.

*Very obscure title that looks as if Tim Schafer and Tim Burton mated. It's very crazy, fairly fun, and had a very zany soundtrack that ranged from mellow, to...that.

*Oh God, where do I start...
Arcanum possibly has one of the best soundtracks of all time. It fits in with the Steampunk atmosphere perfectly, and was overall just beautiful to listen to.
You know you have a very good soundtrack when people rip it off of the game installation to put it on their iPod.

EDIT: Added footnotes, to make it easier to read.

This here is the full, original version of the song.

Lucas, if you liked that rendition of it, you might like this one as well.

Anyway... My list.

(X. Mother 3 (GBA): Etude for Ghosts)
(X. Elder Scrolls III - Morrowind (PC): Main theme)
5. Viewpoint (Genesis/Neogeo): Credits theme
4. Castlevania - Symphony of the Night (PSX): Awakened Soul
3. Sonic and Knuckles (Genesis): Flying Battery Zone
2. God Hand (PS2): Yet... Oh see mind
1. Final Fantasy 6 (SNES): Dancing Mad (Mainly the 1st movement, 3rd movement, and the slow part of the final movement.)

Don't have a top 5, but my I like the music from:

Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3
Final Fantasy X
Lost Odyssey (I'm an Uematsu(sp?) fan.)
Ninety-Nine Nights
Left 4 Dead, not a big part of it, but the music works wonders
Devil May Cry series
Fallout 3, oldies ftw

5. Metal Gear Solid 3's main theme (kick@$$)
4. Metal Gear Solid 2's main theme (it's more kick@$$)
3. Castlevania Symphony of the Night - Entrance ~Dracula's Castle~ (easily the coolest song from the game)
2. Castlevania Lament of Innocence - Young Nobleman of the Water Prison (it's too cool to not list)
1. Castlevania Judgment - Carmilla's Theme ~Bloody Tears~ (this is the most bad@$$ song in any video game)

By the way, what are the links (for the songs)? I click them but all it seems to do is eff with my monitor.

I assume that songs from real bands are out, yes? Can't start pulling out songs from Guitar Hero, can I?

Well then, in no particular order, I've got a few.

1: Kraid (Area), Metroid (specific version: Zero Mission)
2: Crystal Teardrops, Castlevania - Symphony of the Night (although almost any song from that game could make the list)
3: Intruder Alert, Bionic Commando (specific version: Rearmed. As with before, almost any song would make this list)
4: Space Pirates, Castle Crashers
5: Versus, Star Fox 64

Not all of the good songs I like, but a pretty good selection, wouldn't you say?

Celes's theme from FF6
Cid's theme from FF7
...Other final fantasy stuff. That's only because I dodn't remember/listen to game music much. That's not to say I don't appreciate it; music can make a game for me. I find the Mechcommander music pretty nostalgic, and Star Ocean 3 had a fun soundtrack. Closer to home, I loved the soundtrack to CoasterKrazy's ball game he never finished. >.>

TripTrip?
Yeah, that was fun.
Probably helped convince me to actually try to put my GM stuff up on here, and not force myself to learn 2k3.

Not in any particular order:

Metal Gear Solid series.  The main theme(s), Warhead Storage or Encounter.
Devil May Cry 3.  Cerberus Battle, End Credits.
XIII,  The Sanctuary missions.  (Hush.)
Final Fantasy 7 or 8.  Cid's Theme, boss musics, too many to name.
The Medal of Honor series, especially the theme for European Assault.  (Again, hush.)
