Random Weapon Designs
« on: August 22, 2009, 08:26:09 PM »
Yeah, I'm an amateur weapon designer.
Mostly I create swords, every now and then I stray away from that path.
These pictures are not representative of that.

That's the Geared Blade. (the title on the page was the original).
The sword works off of a triggering spring escapement.
You pull the triggers at the hilt (either one works), and then the edges will snap out, due to a gearing mechanism inside of the blade shaft.

See...when you pull the trigger, it releases that gear, which is attached to a bimetallic like spring.
That makes the gear spin rapidly, driving the shaft that it's attached to upwards.
This then spins more gears, causing the edges, which are attached to more gears, to snap outwards, theoretically giving you more force to your swings.
Disadvantages being that it only works once, and then you have to rewind it.
There is a steam powered version being conceptualized...sometime, however.

The imaginatively named Chopper.
Not much to say here, it's basically a stylized cleaver, with weight holes to improve balancing, and some kind of hand-guard.
It was intended to have a sort of "spinning" style, so that you can carry it's immense momentum forwards, cleaving more enemies in two.
It can be wielded backwards, as well.

I must say, it's quite an honor to hear that from you.
Also, your pretty lucky, because I'm currently designing a steam powered flintlock type gun.
I haven't gotten very far in it yet, because I'm trying to figure out how the inner workings would work, but I'm getting there...slowly...

Designs are interesting, the art however could be made a lot more appealing.

No offense though, I'm just spoiled with all them card-artists and stuff.

Yeah, I suck at drawing...
I tried modelling these in 3d, but I got stuck on the gears, I couldn't teeth them correctly.
Everything else worked out, except for that specific part.

It took me almost a year, but I've finally got another one.

The Rail Revolver, Version 1.

The core concept behind this bastard is Railguns.
It fires flechettes through an electrically charged barrel.

That little dial in the back is supposed to turn the revolver chamber.

The trigger mechanism just pushes the flechette into the barrel, so that it can finish the circuit, and thus propel itself along the barrel.

It reloads by the Down Break mechanism, I think it's called.

That second lever on the muzzle holds the battery, which in Myrdia is a little flask holding a Goblin produced gel with Oblivion shavings suspended in it, which was found to transmit electricity very well.

That design didn't work out to well for me, so I redesigned it.

The first design looked a little flimsy to me, so I made the break break up instead of down.
The little bolt at the bottom holds it in place.

I wasn't happy with this one, so I redesigned it again.

The latest version, finished about an hour ago.

This switches back to the break down method, but has the revolver chamber held within the barrel instead.
I found this to be much easier to reload, because now all you need to do is flick a switch, load it, and then flick the switch again.

EDIT: Also, my crotch.

Not a very steampunk design, but steampunk didn't work out too well in this case...
