I've heard a lot things that makes this more like a Hack and slash rather than RPG. The whole, no levels, full heal after battles, no towns or NPC's unless crucial. And so on, But I'm getting it. I got FFXII and I doubt this can be worse.
To be honest, if Enix manages to make a FF worse than FFXII then my FF days are over.

I have to agree I thought personally Final Fantasy died with X-2 but 12 was a massacre.
I have not played the new one but it doens't look anywhere near as bad as 12 either way Final Fantasy days I hope are ending especially if 13 is just as bad as 12 to leave whatever dignity the FF series has left. Now that they have pretty much exhausted every resource of FF7 they have to rely on new games.

I've made it to the second disc and I intend to finish it. The characters have a hell of a lot more personality then 12 did and I am enjoying the story so far. I'm wondering if you guys are just looking for a reason to hate it? =p There are NPCs whom talk when you want to talk to them or automatically. I don't know about the towns thing since I'm still in Cocoon.

One thing I really like? They're making damn sure you use every single character. The group even parts ways and a few punches are thrown between them. The battle system isn't too bad. You only have controll of one character and if the one you're using dies, it's game over. The battle can play it's self with little help from you being as it is active. You can change the role of your comrades and they will auto attack/heal based on that.

The summons seem interesting, I've gathered Shiva "twins" and Odin and will get more as the game progresses.  I do think to be fair, y'all should give it a try. We all have different opinions, while I may like it another may love it and the next may loathe it.

I'll buy a game if I know it is good.
Like most game your taking a chance with wasting money and could end up buying a terrible game.  With Final Fantasy your taking a even bigger chance but hey maybe i'm wrong. I hope so.

The story seems to be picking up a bit, but the character interactions seems so... forced. I dunno'. It's not very natural IMO. But the gameplay is still pretty solid so far. I'm only in Lake Bresha, so I still have quite a ways to go

Seriously, though, I'm starting to give up on Square Enix. I did take a look at the IGN review for XIII and it did look pretty convincing. Still, after X-2, and XII, I'm not really expecting much. I did enjoy Dissidia for a while, though...

It's not really fair to judge 1 harshly by today's standards. It's nigh unplayable by now, but when it came out, it did a lot of things better than other games of the time. Gotta remember that most RPGs before Final Fantasy were storyless dungeon crawls where you could enter a wrong room and get an instant game over.

One thing that greatly disappointed me in FFX was the lack of World Travelling. I also preferred the way summon worked in previous FF. I don't like the characters much, too. The musics weren't as good as previous FF either.
I also enjoyed FF1 (well the remakes, not the original on the NES).

What's wrong with FF13 is the lack of adventure. You know fantasy shouldntt be only limited to like Sci-fi. Besides being quirky and childish, it's too linear and easy.

IGN should not be taken seriously. Their way of rating games have gone downhill for a while. Now adays I try to read magazines for critic's opinions and scores on games; Websites now adays are all fan runned. Just like this game.
