What are you currently working on?
« on: October 24, 2010, 06:45:35 AM »
I'm curious as to what side projects / work / schoolwork / etc. everyone is working on.

I for example, am primarily working on a Super Nintendo Emulator written in Java, called Super Nintendo Online (SNO). The idea is similar to vNES: SNO is a Java applet that you can embed into any web page. You will be able to pass it a URL for a ROM file and a save state, and both will be loaded automatically so that users can jump right into any point in a game.

The project is my Senior Design project for college, and my progress on it determines if I graduate or not. Currently me and my group have all but around 10 CPU instructions implemented and are currently working on getting video output to work. We're testing using a game called Super Valis IV and can get around 100,000 instructions executed before the game starts to run incorrectly.

What stuff are you currently working on? It can be homework, a side project, actual work, etc.

On one hand, I could say Im doing very little....but on the otherhand Im doing lots.

In theory, Im unemployed...but thats just in title.

Ive got 3 flash game collabs slowly on the go, and expect at least 2 of them to be done by February...as well as 2 projects of my own that will be done whenever they get finished. These dont make me any money yet (well, thats not true, Im owed like, six dollars from a Kongregate game), but they are fun. In addition to the games Im working on, Im trying to figure out how to make a set of resource generators for this place. Being active in the beta test for stencyl is helping me learn things...but its still slow going. Im hoping to have a prototype for the new year.

Im building a coffee table out of business cards (modular origami style). This is because I like to do things.

Im painting pictures and making paper toys, building some robot suits for my February Art grant application, as well as trying to apply for a business liscense for when that all goes through. Then I can say in honesty that Im making a living doing nothing.

I'm picking up a few new programming languages, but I'm probably not gonna get very far into them until I finished learned about various file formats. I'm using this knowledge to build a Mugen-based SSB engine (in Game Maker, but still, file formats).

Also, I'm building some NES Reproduction cartridges.

That is too wierd. I literally just had a conversation about sickle cell anemia a couple of days ago.

It's fascinating. It's due to a defect in the Beta Globin gene that codes for the Beta polypeptide
strands. It causes the amino acid known as Glutamic Acid to be replaced with Valine. This causes
a change in the tertiary structure and removes a vital bend, taking away the globular haemoglobin
structure and making the polypeptide strands elongated, pushing outwards and causing red blood cells to
disfigure and fire out in sharp spikes. So yeah.

I'm actually thinking of putting some genuine biological knowledge in my game, since it's all gonna be
science-based!!

College for mechanical engineering.  Current subsections include a pain in the @ss physics lab and a paper about energy.

Attempting to find a job either on-campus or in town.

Working on both a crappy and a serious game.

Trying to figure out how to talk to that girl I like.

Uh, lets see...
  • Sight-singing and harmonic/melodic/rhythmic dictation for my Theory Skills class
  • building basic chords in Theory
  • a piece called Concerto in C minor Mvt. 1 for my lessons(This is the D minor version, same song, just a bit higher than the one I have http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY449k-orW0 )
  • learning 3 pieces for concert band
  • learning classical excerpts from Beethoven's 3rd Symphony
  • working on cleaning the two shows we learned for marching band (The Planets, and an Eric Clapton show)
  • learning to transpose in my head piano pieces in Class Piano (Ode to Joy in the keys of D, C, and E)
  • working on learning how to teach folk songs in Class Voice (The Water is Wide, Shenandoah, etc.)
  • scheduling for next semester
  • math homework and a history test tomorrow
Whoo 18 credits!  And I have 18 next semester, not counting the 4 ensembles I have to take for 0 credit.

I just love being a music ed major.

This is what I am looking forward to next semester:

Monday - Wednesday

Theory Skills II 8:00 AM (MWF)

Theory II - 9:05 AM (MWF)

Class Piano II - 11:15 AM (MW)

Class Voice II - 12:20 AM (MW)

Education Psychology - 5:05 PM (M)

Tuesday - Thursday

Music Technology - 8 AM

Class Percussion - 9:30 AM

(Not on the schedule, APMU Oboe II, Concert Band, Symphony Band (possibly), Clarinet Choir, Double Reed Ensemble, MUSC 475 [Recital Lab], Piano Jury C)

I'm also going to be working with a high school indoor percussion program this winter.

  • Building a basic website for my Web Technologies module which would be no problem if I had any prior experience with web design. Simple CSS practically made my head explode.
  • Doing a Requirements & Evaluation assignment which would be no problem if I'd actually been to any of the lectures or non-optional workshops.
  • Working on a Sonic Arts piece which would be no problem if the editing software hadn't been coded somewhere in the ****ing Malebolge.
  • Constantly reminding myself I need to figure out how looping works in FL Studio so I can finish those ambient loops for Gem.
  • Trying to get a band together, which is no easy task when you're mediocre at everything.
  • Jotting down ideas for a piece of writing I will never do.
  • Desperately searching for a job.
