North and South Korea
« on: November 23, 2010, 10:49:49 PM »
So, we all know North Korea sunk that South Korean ship back in March. Now North Korea could, potentially, have nuclear capable, or a way of making that possible.

And today, roughly only two hours ago, North Korea shelled a South Korean island, killing two people. Very provocative. Very intentional. There's no beating around the bush when about a country launching a military strike against another.

So, could be nothing. Could be a lot of something. Your thoughts?

Yeah... We are allies with South Korea, so I really hope this doesn't escalate. Then again, I feel the North has been itching for a fight. Or atleast their political leaders.

Yeah...The "US getting their dumb asses into it" is about the dumbest thing ever posted here.
A permenent seat on the UN security council means that when a country like N Korea claims to have Nuclear armaments, and starts artillery bombing a military island of a UN nation like S korea, after years of saying "Were going to do this, **** you Everyone" means that the US would be both Dumb and derilict in its responsibilities to NOT do something about it. This goes for every nation in the UN.

You kids need to stop confusing the UN with the USA. I like how you ever so eloquently EXPECT obama to make the wrong choice,  and act the cowboy.
There is a global system of international war policing at play here. Its not the america show. Your country is not as important as you think it is.

Look up the UN security council as od 2010

Those are the "Dumb asses" that are going to get involved. And their "Dumb asses" are the reason that there has only been one or two nuclear attacks in  earths history, rather then several. I hope you enlist.

1: Not enlisting
2: I'm not stupid ben, enough with your old man talk/lecture.
3: They are gonna get involved, I know they should. They just won't be smart about it.
4: US Is already in two over sea wars, last thing we need it a 3rd one.
5: act the coyboy?
6: I know we're not important, were on average pretty damn stupid too.
7: Just think how stupid the average man is, then realize there are those who are even stupider.

I wouldn't call us stupid, we're not. We're divided.

And I get the US is a part of the UN, I took plenty of history to get that.

I just don't like war. If these fuckers have nukes, then damn right they need to go down.

War is just... Terrible. It kills good people, young people. Even the people you weren't thinking about. The good people on the other side.

That's all I'm saying. I think we can all agree we want this to end peacefully. Of course, if nukes become the threat, there's no avoiding war.

You speak, but all I read is cliche rhetoric.

The things is, these people spend years in school and professions to get where they are. You can call them stupid only when you either educate yourself to a point comparable to theirs, or admit thet you yourself dont know what you are talking about. And how ecaxtly do you go about "Smartly" handling a conflict like this, Felix? Youre quick to call these people stupid...lets hear your all-intelligent solution. I havent been to Uni, but ive read some poli-sci textbooks, and Id like to hear what manner of brilliance you have to solve this conflict?
But I digress

Nukes are definatly a threat. A couple of years ago North Korea claimed to have a nuclear arms program in effect. Nukes are a threat in any war though. A lot of countries have nukes now. Sorry if my mini rant sounded like it was directed your way Dren. Was not my intent. I was directing my "OMG SHUT UP NOOB" at felix....or as he calls it "old man rant"..I dont think it was an old man rant though, so much as the reply to a childish post.

The war will be fought regardless. The war machine generates money. A global rescession means a bunch more of this is going to happen. You should be happy about the "Stupid wars"...those two other ones...otherwise your dad would be out of a job, and you wouldnt have your comfy chair and internet. I dont ACTUALLY want you to enlist Felix. . I think you would be a lot cooler of a guy if you read more books. You should try out 1984. You'd probably enjoy it, and it would put things into perspective.

There's just no getting along between good ol' Gem and our young anti-mainstream members.

Apparently North Korea claimed that S-Korea launched a missile against them and that the following (possible) battle will be nothing more than a defensive retaliation. Kinda reminds you of a certain country attempting to invade another said country and ending up getting fucked back before the second world war?

Also, American-person-ish made some silly comment to China about not acting. So yeah. The heat is on.
Let's see how long 'till starcraft lose 50% of their players.

China and North Korea are allies but from what I understand, not very good allies. What does china even benefit from being North Korea's ally. Is it just because they're communist?

God, I didn't want to be the one to suggest world war. I'm not sure everything is there for a world war tho.

Well, world and world.
I doubt South America or Africa will get involved. Neither Australia or perhaps majorities of western Europe.

Some European countries will assist of course when it's decided but I doubt that this will be anything more than what happened in Georgia. Well, with threats of nukes.

Ive spent today doing some homework about this.

North and south Korea have a shared and highly disputed maritime border. Basically, North korea said a while back "Hey...South korea. If you come even an inch closer to this border, were going to shoot your life" and South Korea was like "Whatevs bro" and some time went by

Then South Korea was like "Lets do some training excercises in those disputed waters we arent supposed to do things in" and they started shooting their guns...in the opposite direction of the border. So north Korea was like "dont make me angry, you wouldnt like me when im angry" and South korea was like "Cool it bro" so North korea raged, and artillery bombed the island that the offending base was on. Two people died, and a few were injured, which, in the scope of things, is pretty minimal.

So now, the rest of the world is freaking out...because its an act of agression by north Korea....even if it is slightly justified.
North Korea has now been sort of forced into action, and now the rest of the world (which is experiencing a mass economic failiure and is looking for ways to generate a bit more growth) is like "KICK HIS ***, SEEBASS" because War means Money....and less communist means for cash trading hands, even on the international level.

China and north korea are loosely allied. China has two different economic systems on the juggle and has been undergoing a cold, slow, nonconfrontational and unrecognised form of revolution for a while now. North Korea and Old skool china have the Communist alliance on account of the Mao reign. China has expressed dissaproval of North Koreas behavior as of late. They want to keep good on the alliance but are also very much saying "N.Korea, dooooooooood, chill out man.....youre making us look bad".

Obama, aware of the fact that US forces are spread thin in the middle east, among other presences worldwide, is saying "WEVE GOT UR BACK BRAH" to Skorea, but is also saying "But lets try and solve this diplomatically first, m'kay" and I honestly think that Another overseas military front for the states will be avoided until absolutely necessary. Lets take some comfort in the fact that we have Mister Obama in the driver seat and not Dubya.

I honestly think this is going to blow over after a bit of fuss, and just lead to another war of sorts further down the road when afganistan is abondoned. Theres money in Iraq to be made. After all, its going to take time to build The gentile sequel to Israel

North Korea is agressive but not stupid. I dont think they will threaten use of nukes unless they feel absolutely cornered. They dont want to nuke South Korea, they want to weaken, and then annex it.

Although you want to avoid a war, you have to admit that if you call yourself someone's 'ally' and then they get attacked you have an obligation to try and help them out.  Leaving it alone might spare lives but be ultimately immoral.  Obviously, trying to reach a non violent solution is the ideal.
