Oh GOD.
« on: August 28, 2011, 01:52:47 PM »
Someone left this comment on my youtube profile.

"É de pessoas como vc que Jesus quer! Quem convence o homem, quem converte o homem não é o próprio homem amigo, mas o ESPIRITO SANTO de Deus.
Aguarde, sua hora está chegando!! Se arrependa enuqnato há tempo!"

"It is people like you that Jesus wants! Who convinces men, who converts men isn't the friendly man itself, but the HOLY SPIRIT of God.
Wait, because your hour is coming! Repent wihle there's time!" (typo included)

So he probably found my profile while reading one of my comments replying to some random religious person in some random atheist video.  I never use youtube for trolling, and instead I actually take my time to read through retarded comments ("But if there's no God, where did men come from?!11!" or "If there's no God to punish you, what stops you from MURDER and RAPE, you filthy atheists?!!") and actually giving them decent replies. I think most people never read them, but it's a fun hobby either way.

I... I'm just having a hard time understanding what the heck that guy was trying to tell me. Maybe he was just expecing me to hear "Repent!" and then repent, just like all those people in the Chick tracts? Or... Hell, I don't know. Just thought I should share with you all.

Religion may cause certain people to take it too seriously, but as a whole I believe it fulfills a very good purpose. It brings people together with a common element, and can bring very good philosophies to people.
However, there are, have been, and always will be some very bad eggs in a given group that ruin it for everybody, causing widespread panic over nothing, and ostricizing [sp] people due to things beyond their control.
All in all, I believe religion is a powerful force that has great potential, but that potential is usually ruined by assholes who take things too seriously/literally.

Yeah, that's such a loaded reply that it's better if I don't even get into it.

Religion isn't a bad thing, it is people who use it wrong is the bad thing. I get flak for being Christian because I'm automatically assumed to be a zealot. So then, people act as zealots to counter me before I even argue and... I guess assuming I'd judge them or something? I find that hilarious on both ends. I find this "I am right, you are wrong" philosophy to be... very backwards and plagues both ends of the battlefield. It is less of a debate or argument and more a go-nowhere internet feud. I consider such childish and as humans should be risen above really, as it would be the intelligent thing to do... oh wait...

I get my fair share from the opposite end of the spectrum. It is quite amazing how similar it is to this kinda thing. It is generally...

"Religion is evil! You are evil for having one! You are instantly closed-minded because of it! I am right, you are wrong! Religion is the cause of all world pains and turmoil and we'd never have a single war if there was no religion! Your God sucks, Jesus sucks! Blah blah blah... sold to an American."

The war thing is rather laughable repeated statement, because we've always had war, and rarely has it been at the root about religion. In fact, wars are started often for entirely different reasons. The dominating ones are: land, resources, expansion, bare essentials, something they desire to obtain, to flex national muscle. Religion plays a general backseat really, and is often just a front, not the true reason. Crusades? Money, fame, treasure, control. They weren't really out to convert anyone, just to control them. Hitler? He didn't care for religion, really. Honestly, he's kinda confusing on that matter but it did come down to political power. Honestly, even if it weren't for religion it would just be something else to use as an excuse. It is actually used as an excuse too, to rally people to the cause. If it weren't religion, they'd use exaggerated morality issues or other things such as this. Religion really gets unnecessary blame here.

Oh and uh... right, the whole, "thou shalt not pass judgement" and all that, lol. Such is an often forgotten passage. I think the rest of my "fold" should read it at least seven times before starting something.

First, Lucas, I like you and I have a lot of affection for you. But seriously- we get it, you don't like religion. There are some religious people on this forum, and I'm sure none of us are crazy or fly planes into buildings. We also didn't write that message on your wall or start threads about how great religion is. So please stop trying to rub your beliefs in our faces. It's really not cool.

People are people. Some of us are just crazy, religion is just a tool for some people to bring out their craziness, or as a reason to do bad things. But there are also crazy atheist, and people do bad things and try to justify it with anything they can.  Point being, don't blame religion for people being crazy, or good for that matter, blame the person themselves.

This sounds like something I would scream at people when I'm not sober lol, are you sure they weren't just messing with you?
