So I got Netflix, and that introduced me to Doctor Who.
« on: April 07, 2012, 01:09:38 AM »
Specifically, the 9th Doctor.

I'm really liking ths series, but I'm painfully aware various references to past doctors are being thrown and wooshing past my head.

So for anyone here who might've watched past adventures of the Doctor, is it worth my time to seek them and watch them? Do the old series hold well by today's standarts?

Also, kind of unrelated to the topic, but I'm fed up with my Nyanvatar.

I need ideas for a new one.

...

I'll probably put the TARDIS in there for now.

EDIT: Well Google images has not disappointed.

Still, too big. Not resizing it.

A friend of mine recently got addicted.
She's finishing up 10th doctor before moving on to the current season.
I don't think I'd be able to watch it, though...too much continuity to dig through. It'd bug the **** out of me.

Those people who are really into dr who says that the past series are the best so I suppose it could be worth your while. Only problem is that they are so many.

You say that like I actually worked hard instead of slapping it together in five minutes.

I've been really into Doctor Who recently. I haven't seen any of the episodes before the 9th doctor, and I don't feel like I'm missing anything in the story or anything. Honestly, I don't think you really need to watch many of the episodes with the 9th doctor either. In my opinion, the show doesn't start to get good until David Tenant becomes the doctor, but there are a few important episodes like when they introduce captain Jack and the last two episodes of the season with the whole bad wolf thingy.

Well you know that episode where they go to a museum and the Doctor recognizes a few things? I'm pretty sure that was a trhowback to an old villain. Also, I'd like to hear more about the Time Wars, and the Daleks.

My old man was REALLY into Doctor Who in the 70's, so I've been watching it ever since I was a kid. The new series is written with the knowledge that the majority of the audience won't have seen the original episodes. There are neat little toss ups to the old series, as well as old plot continuities, but the important ones are always re-addressed. Having not seen the old ones, you're not missing out on the new ones. There were some great old stories, and some godawful rubber suits. Also, something like a quarter of the series is destined to never be seen again, as the reels were not stored properly/and or destroyed.
