The 3 D to the S
« on: June 20, 2012, 05:30:57 PM »
"Another thread? WTH Purple?!"
Well excuuuuse me princesses. I have a lot on my mind, deal with it.

So I bought a 3DS two days ago. I had some expectations and then on the other hand I wasn't expecting much at all.
But it was a sale and it came with mario kart 7 so I thought "why not, I got a summerjob this year that nets me quite some cash so I might just spend an ounce of it on something nice for myself." Which is exactly what I did.

First of all, the manual is like half the box. Now, some of you might say something like. "No it wasn't?" But I'm telling you, when things are released in Europe and then top it with Scandinavia - there is a lot of manual to see. First we have an english verison (which is the version any sane person would use so that they actually understand what it says) and then we have french, german, itallian, spanish. All fine, we get it. Major languages and that crap. But then we get more of them. Only this time in Swedish ( I get it, since I bought it in Sweden) but then we get dannish, norweigan and finnish as well.
Some of you probably haven't seen a real 3ds in the wild but it's not a large construct. But the box was huge.

Second thing I noticed was that the recharge cable didn't have anywhere to go. Got me a bit puzzled but then I found the charging station. Now I'm all for not having to plug my cable into stuff if you know what I mean (cables and the hole they go into easily break). But I can't possible play a game and charge this at the same time...The 3ds is not actually stuck on the recharge station, it's more like. Laying there and waiting form e to pick it up.

When it was done and all that I went through all the settings and stuff getting internets (finally some internets on the ds!). I popped open my pack of AR cards and played around with those as well. Gotta say it's a pretty neat idea. Using that AR card for games and other stuff. But mostly just neat.
Played some face raiders which was awesome. I actually moved the ds and not just playing tilting action like I do whenever my wii tells me to do something silly.
So I stood around looking like a deranged fool in the middle of my room turning in circles with a ds in front of me shooting at my own face. Lovely.

I don't know about you guys but this whole 3D hype is nothing for me. My brain hurts when I play with the 3d on for too long. Donno why but it just forces your eyes to work harder or something. Sure it's pretty cool to see stuff flying in and out of the screen like that but it's not THAT cool.

Anyway. Mario kart 7 is pretty good but I hate that the AI always screw up my coins 2 feet from the finish line and that the blue shell rams things on its' path again.
Super pokemon rumble is a clear upgrade from the Wii-ware game. Just great. Same simple concept only more contents. Having a game that only wants me to move around and press A for one attack and B for the other is just swell.
Should be getting resident evil sometime this week (revelations, not mercenaries 3d. Some of my friends need to get a 3ds before I spend money on that one). So We'll see about that one.

Overall the 3ds got some sweet graphics, a lot better than the DS and the 3d effects are flashy but not vital.

I haven't yet to be able to afford one but I do want one, but I need to get my old DS Lites repaired or replaced first so I can use the Gen III Pokemon games again. This is my only pet peeve about the newer DS models, "No GBA slots!"

All 3d is gimmicky.

And (hate me if you must), I will not be buying a 3ds until they make something like the R4 card for it (which I haven't bothered to research if they have or not). I've bought waaaaaaay to many ds games only to play them for an hour or two and get bored with them and never pick them up again (Metriod, Fire Emblem Shadow Poop, Phantom Hourglass, Golden Sun 3). Rom test downloads have saved much money.
So far I've heard absolutely nothing about the 3ds, which basically screams "nothing worth having" to me.

You don't have to use the charging station with the 3DS. I completely forgot it even had that thing. The cable plugs into the wall just like the DS did.

But eh, yeah, it's gimmicky. I'm more worried about the fact that the library isn't overflowing like the DS's was. The fact that I play more DS games than 3DS games on my 3DS is telling.

I'm waiting on a redesign with the second circle pad built in. I see a bunch of games that I want, and a bunch more on the horizon (half of which will be out by the end of the year), but I can wait. If I really must play something, I can always just use my brother's 3DS.

Jesus sounds like a hard person to satisfy.  I loved Golden Sun 3, played it twice in a row actually.  Sure it was easy, but hell i had fun with it.  Phantom Hourglass was one of my least favorite zeldas.  Wasn't a huge fan of all touch controls, but I did really like Spirit Tracks.  As for 3DS games.  Super Mario 3D is really good, OoT 3D was good, Kid Icarus hates left handers...  Resident Evil is good and mario kart 7 is good.

What? Jigga waaaaah?
I guess it is cuz I'm not a fan of games where most of the gameplay involves the main characters slowly talking about stupid Kitty-Doggie **** that has nothing to do with the world being in danger. This includes stuff like Disgaea and whatnot too. I feel like character development comes from the actions a character makes in certain situations, not mindless chatter between obvious friends. Which is why I couldn't finish dark dawn. I'm sure it was a good game otherwise though. :/

My fav ds game is Radiant Historica :D

That good?

Just got my resident evil and the graphics are reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally swell. I thought the PSP outclassed the DS, but it's amazing how far we've gotten. Not gonna say that it's all HD like resident evil 5 (that would be silly) but it almost looks just as good.
Gameplaywise - I think I should've gotten one of those extra D pads, some of the controls are buggin me. The game overall is like previous games, a bit more puzzles and strong enemies. Less ammo found. But the ironic part is that this same game does not have a paused inventory screen, quick button Herb usage and the possibility to strafe while aiming.

Haha I play golden sun for the battles and puzzle solving using psynergy and the custom djinn class change ish.  Maybe the 4th one will have a better story for you haha.

That good?

Yes sir. Brilliant 2d graphics, amazing story with plenty of twists, VERY well implemented time travel, multiple endings, and a simple yet inventive combat system that provides enough difficulty to make things challenging.

IMPORTANT:  The below apply almost exclusively to me.

3DS:

---Currently Available---
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Super Mario 3D Land
Mario Kart 7
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
Devil Survivor: Overclocked
Starfox 64 3D
Cave Story 3D
Tales of the Abyss
Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition

---Upcoming---
New Super Mario Bros. 2
Paper Mario: Sticker Star
[Not in the foreseeable future] Super Smash Brothers
Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance

---Features---
Backwards compatibility
Decent roster of NES and GBA games (Provided you were an Ambassador)

Vita:

---Currently Available---
Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3
Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Gravity Rush
Touch My Katamari

---Upcoming---
Persona 4: Golden
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale

---Features---
3 games with cross-play (hooray)
Backwards Compatibility (provided your willing to buy them again digitally)
Eventually will allow PSX games playable (Crash Bandicoot 2 anyone?)
Youtube (Eventually)

At the moment, there's a clear winner in my book.  Persona 4 is a huge boost to the Vita, but unfortunately with only this on the horizon that appeals to me it's not looking to promising for the next couple of months/years.  On the other hand, the 3DS is also disappointing for the foreseeable future, but I currently have nearly three times the games available along with several DS games I have not yet played that all the way through that they actually want me to play.  I am still keeping both of my DS and PSP, but I would love to be able to enjoy them on their next-gen portable.
