Welcome to the best new thing in the world
tl:dr for the kickstarter: New indie console for playing indie games. Yes, minecraft will be on it. And so will a lot of other wonderful games, and many more games will be made specifically for it. It's goal is to bring indie gaming to consoles in a significant number and make people forget cellphones.

All games will need have some sort of free to play to be on it.

They needed 950 000 to start producing it.

In the course of two days (edit: scratch that, it was one day) they made three millions, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was a much larger number by th time you opened it up.

Who will buy it now? Who will wait until lunch? Who doesn't give a damn?

Keep in mind that that thing right there is probably the biggest thing to happen in indie gaming since forever. I can't afford one now, but I will probably throw them my money before the kickstarter is over.

Heard about it, unsure if it'll actually succeed. Either way, I don't have $100 to get one when it comes out.

Good to see it met its goal in about eight hours time, though. That bodes well enough for this early of a stage.

I want one for development purposes.

Lucas is doing a poor job at explaining it...it's basically going to be the "Open Source" console.
It's running Android, has open hardware specs, and it's going to try to make it as easy as possible for developers to get their games out.
It's also easy to root, so software mods are going to be VERY easy for it.

So, basically, it is Indie Gamer Heaven, but most of it is piqueing the developer in me, as opposed to the gamer.

I don't see how a home console can make me forget about my cellphone, though.

It's trying to get dev's off the cellphone and onto a far more powerful machine.
It's definitely not going to kill casual gaming, but it's going to draw quite a bit of devs, if the current numbers are anything to go by.

I'm really floored by the amount of money they've raised in a short amount of time and that's awesome, but I'm just a little skeptical of how successful they'll be. I only just heard of this thing yesterday. I kind of hope it succeeds though, I do like what they're trying to do.

Understandable, really. They're a bit hit and miss. When they hit, they hit well, but so many miss. My main problem with Indie games is that they all want to "make a statement" and that usually involves an obnoxiously confusing storyline and extremely abstract gameplay. I get it, I get it - you think games can be art, too. But art doesn't have to be a clusterfrak of personal interpretation and unexplained loose ends.

As far as I can tell, The Binding of Isaac was made by a team member from Team Meat (and some strays), and not by the whole team.

I cannot adequately describe how excited I am for this.
Seriously, I wish I had $1337 to pay for a leet dev console.
Or, at least, $130 to spend on it (and an extra controller).
