Phobias.
« on: August 23, 2012, 10:59:41 PM »
So I have a fun fact to share with you all - I'm afraid of bees.

Not just "Ohmigawd, get that thing away from me!" afraid, but screaming at the top of my lungs afraid. I went out for food with a family member today and we were sitting in the car eating when a bee (or maybe a wasp, or maybe a yellowjacket, I was too panicked to pay very close attention) flew in and started hovering around me. I flipped out and started screaming like a sissy (literally, screaming) and kept twisting around in the car seat trying to get away from it.

Ahem...anyway...now that you're all mocking my pain, why don't you all man up and confess your own stupid phobias? Come on, you've all got that one thing that makes you scream like a little girl. Admit it. :P

Your fear of bees is fun to watch, though. Remember at LaRonde? Yeah. Wasps everywhere.
And protip: Don't try to smack wasps on the floor while sitting on a bench. benches may abruptly stop the momentum and leaves you with pain.

Not too bad, though. At least you didn't get into a car accident like my friend did when a spider dropped from the car ceiling or something.

I don't think I have any actual phobia, to be honest. As far as I can remember, there never was a single thing that I wouldn't approach nor anything. Or does social phobia count? Because I guess that would be mine.

My ex was very allergic to wasp stings so we had a real fear :p One sting and she would've had to be rushed to hospital.

As for me... I dunno.  I'm quite a hyprochondriac... If that counts.  Other than that I used to be afraid of worms and maggots, but that was years and years ago.  Now I just dislike them.

People, I'm deathly terrified of people. No joke. :\

Last year a lot of bad **** was going down in my life and something must have snapped inside my head. Now I can't go to a single public place without being terrified of that "everyone is watching (and judging) you" feeling.

Like if I go to a store for example, everything is perfectly fine up until I get to the cash register. I almost literally become paralyzed with fear that the clerks are silently criticizing my purchase selection.

And I know it's stupid and retarded and paranoid, and that most people don't even give a ****. But just something in my head turns me crazy when I go out into the big wide world. Pretty damn ironic considering I used to be the class clown/life of the party type of guy. Life is funny sometimes, clown funeral funny.

Driving. It stems from a childhood incident where I crashed my dad's truck into my mom's van. Now, I'm deathly afraid of driving. I'm also afraid of other drivers, but I lack any confidence in myself when behind the wheel, so it's far worse.

I also have minor fears of whatever you guys mentioned so far. I have ways to keep them in check, but they get to me just the same. I also used to have a fear of cats' claws. The cats were fine, but the moment any pointy ends surfaced, I was out of there. Now, I'm more or less fine with it.

These:

-Being injected with heroin by a surprise attacker, then becoming addicted to heroin because I have an addictive personality.
-Aye ayes.
-Inflatable automobile men (http://www.bankrate.com/financing/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/car-blog-wacky-waving-inflatable-arm-flailing-tube-man.jpg)
-Being stabbed repeatedly in the face by a horse with syringes on its hooves.

These are all true!

Oh, Zuhane, lol. Though I do have to admit that half of those things would scare the living crap out of me too.

That post also reminded me of the fact that I'm afraid of needles though I can tolerate them better now than when I was younger. I'm still a wimp who has to look away whenever I see anyone getting stabbed by one. I HATE needles.

I give shots as part of my job. I really wish people wouldn't be so afraid of them.

You know the majority of shots are only accompanied by pain due to the alcohol used to sanitize the site of injection... the needle itself doesn't do much unless you are getting something heavy duty (which I have yet to give).

Heights.
I am cripplingly terrified of heights, to the point that I can't get within 20 feet of a cliff edge.

Also weird things I'm afraid of:
Spiders
The dark (and I'm almost 20)
Parties
Rotten milk

Oh God, death. I'm terrified of death. It's not really the idea of dying that frightens me, though. I'm fine with that. After recovering from severe suicidal depression, you kind of get to a point where death is inconsequential. No, it's the death of those who I'm close to that shakes me to the core. I've had a lot of close family die every year or two (sometimes multiple times a year) for a good decade now, and I'm living in fear that someone else is next up on the chopping block. I seem to have problems with human interaction because I don't want to have another death waiting in line for me to suffer through. It's made me a massive worry-wart, paranoid of anything too dangerous. It may be contributing to my germophobic behavior, but that might just be the OCD taking over (something else in my life that seems to be getting worse by the minute).

I'm some kind of neurotic mess.

Voidphobia is usually associated with the fear of the dark, but it's much deeper.
