The ff7 remake
« on: December 11, 2015, 08:59:08 PM »
So it's happening and I figured it would be like Duke Nukem but they seem to be working on it.
There was a "gameplay" trailer released about a week ago and I snagged the video in case someone is interested in it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3sBZ5Nr4hc

they mentioned that the system will be a lot like FFXV which in turn is a bit closer to the Kingdom hearts series. So people might not like that. But still, the original looks like crap so.

ZATS THEM! I was hopping it'd be turn based like the classic. Frack! Well so much for buying it when I got a PS4. TT_TT Figures since it's the one FF game I sold cause I couldn't beat it and somebody later shows me that getting Vincent wasn't as hard as I though and that's all I had to do to move on. OOoohhh I was having mildly good day till this. FF15's battle system is smooth for a action base but honestly I've not see anything that impressed me much about it really other than it seemed to have wider battle fields that were pretty but so fracking what. I wanted the original FF7 with some exra content, maybe a few more side quests or weapons graphics, and enhanced visuals. That's it. That would have made me happy but noooo we have to once again put another nail in the coffin of turn based games, don't we SQUARE ENIX?! Frack your lovers!!

I'm mildly bemused. It looks good, visually speaking, but I'm not really sold. There's still no solid confirmation that the good parts of the story won't be significantly altered. The change in combat is ok, but it would be nice to include the classic combat as a toggle option. The real rub is with the episodic release plan. What's wrong with just releasing it as one game? Concern that it won't be commercially successful (as if that's possible)? A desire to get it out in a reasonable time (ha!)? Some weird plan to charge $60 per part and make it a $180 game (actually kind of likely)?

They waited too long to finally do this, and the changes look like they may be enough to make the game a very different product (for better or for worse), and I'm not a big FFanboy anymore. Impress me with the final product, and I'll catch the late hype train.

It looks good and all, it will probably appeal to the younger gamers who keeps hearing about ff7 but wouldn't ever play it because it looks rather terrible. It's hard to picture it being released on the same console as ff8 and ff9 after all.

I suppose that the older generation would like to play it again as well. But not the ones who have this image of the game being perfect.
So far I've heard that Cloud's arms are too small, that Barret isn't "acting black enough" and that Jessie apparently is a girl (however you could miss that...)

hopefully they don't bollocks it up with this whole "Episodic" thing.
It's hard to tell exactly how the game will be compared to the original (whether or not it's turnbased despite it's new action-battle system) or what else is changed/removed until we get an actual video of substance.

I have no faith that being episodic is going to make it good. Its firmly in the "wait until its released as a package collection" thing, pending "don't get at all" if people find out it sucks.

Actually it looks amazing to me. Especially all the smooth HD graphics and how the limits are part of your combos but why is SOLDIER chasing Cloud so much. And why do their bullets look so fluid and fire-work like?  _sweat_ Not tubular at all. Episodiac is only so they can steal more of our money and give us less game. I mean there's more dungeons in FF7 than a year game in the series! It'll be a mondo gold mine if they release it one piece at a time.  ::)

Ugh....After ACTUALLY looking a the video I have to say I love the HD grpahics and it does look like it'll support a better ABS than KH buuuuuuut it's making the world a bit too dark for my like. FF7 was sorta dark, especially in Midgar, but honestly there was humor to offset that. I always loved that about it. First Dramedy-type sub genre I can remember being exposed to in video games. I do have to admit the combat looks interesting though. I would like to try it out once if only to criticize it properly.

Midgar was always very dark, anyway.

I've been interested in this for a while! I'm not expecting it to be as good as the original, but we can still play the original as much as we want.

If you can switch from character to character in battle then I'm all for it. Running around punching enemies as Tifa sounds kinda awesome.

I'll be more interested in less easy-to-adapat characters like Cat Sith and Red VIII. Not to mention Materia's purpose in this game. Will you be able to use all the abilities Matera granted you in real time? Will it work as a extra skills? I don't remember seeing an MP bar.

I'm guessing they might do materia like they did in Crisis core or the improved system in KH birth by sleep.

And I hope that characters can be swapped, if not mid combat but at least at save points or something.
