Pokemon Go
« on: August 03, 2016, 05:43:04 AM »
I told myself and my friends I wouldn't play this game, but the fad finally convinced me otherwise. How about everyone else? Buying into the hype, or still managing to resist?

Let's talk about it!

It's a lot of fun, and gives you a good reason to go on a walk if you don't already have one, but just like any sensation, it's bound to lead to trouble. Trespassers being shot, kids pouring into busy roads, and religious people claiming blasphemy. Boy what a world we live in.

It's pretty fun, but just like any free to play game, I'm wary and don't want to spend money on something I can't enjoy forever. Those 20 pokeballs per dollar, one gone, are gone forever, and I'll never get that dollar back.

So, thoughts?

It's pretty hyped over here and there's at least 1 news report regarding it on the national news. Usually about "digital imaginary monsters" on train tracks, people playing while driving, elders complaining about zombielike behaviour and so on.

I know I would get sucked into it straight away if I started so I'm still avoiding it.

I've played through the tutorial (which lasts all of about 5 minutes) and haven't touched it since. I guess it's because I'm too busy most of the time, and when I'm not busy, I just want to relax and play a real video game instead. Besides, I'm on my feet all day at work, so I'm definitely not interested in going for a walk just to play a mobile game.

Seems like a cool enough idea, though.

Played it and I do enjoy it! I love the mechanics involved in throwing the ball and how ANY pokemon from Generation One. I literally caught a Sycther just up my road o.O Never been able to catch a Scyther in pokemon games before. Ever. Not even in emulators. -.-; BUT  I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE Gym Battles. Oh I love the mechanic of 'capture the flag' sort of play that's in it but I hate how CP and live motions are how you battle. X/ After YEARS OF TURN BASED COMBAT! Of course tat's why I'll never play it 100% serious. But I do have to admit? It makes me long for the old games and I like how I can play it while I'm ridding in the car. I usually use my cab time to just look up fun stuff or answer forum posts. But the other day I had a Pokemon experience you can only get from GO: I caught a Horsea at Arby's. X3

Honestly getting tired of people using 3rd party apps to gain an advantage. I don't want to, because I want to play the game the way it was meant; but it's kinda impossible with everyone basically cheating.

Though I have met some nice people. I don't get a chance to talk to strangers much, but it seems like Pokemon Go people always have a reason to talk!

I'm probably buying into the hype soon, now that it got launched around here.

That said, I'm not expecting much. Pokemon as a whole has stopped being relevant to me since around that one time my Heart Gold save data got corrupted.

Got it the first day, really like it. It's a shame there are so many bugs though, that they remove or move PokeStops every day, and that the game refuses to load on mobile data :(
Other than that it's pretty fun. I'm not much into the fighting part, more on just trying to collect all of them, but they need a real tracking system (they removed the 3 steps, which was a bad system anyway, hopefully there'll be a new better system).

When I first heard about it, I didn't feel interested. Didn't really liked the idea of walking to play a mobile game. However, I actually decided to give it a try when it came out here, and I have to say, I really do like it. I don't take it as seriously as some do, like I won't risk my life over a Pokemon or strive to conquer every gym (in fact, I've only ever fought in one gym, though mostly because they're usually guarded by Pokemons with much higher CP than mine), and I've yet to go on a walk just for that, but I now often prolonge my walk from work to play a bit more and locate more Pokestops along the way. I also play whenever I get an opportunity, like if I'm riding a car (as a passenger, mind you) or have to go somewhere by walk.

I used to walk a lot before, but stopped over a while as my sleep becoming worse, my job requiring no physical effort (QA tester), medication and just plain lack of exercise have made me somewhat lazy... but I've tried to convince myself to go back to walking every once in a while, and this game may eventually give me another good reason to do so. We'll see. Laziness can be difficult to overcome once strongly established. As for the social aspect, well, social anxiety still too strong to talk to random strangers, but we may get there one day!

Through a lot of extra steps, you can play an emulated version via computer and GPS spoofing.

It's... an alternative at least.

I play it here and there, wish it had more features but I'm hoping they'll show up in later updates.

I got pretty into this, as it was a good excuse to exercise. But I more or less ran out of stuff to do in about two weeks. I caught all the Pokes that spawn around my area and all that's left is to try to hatch eggs or get meme'd on by pidgeys.

Like Apex I avoided it but then got into it, and like Sai I started to get bored of it somewhat. I do have it on on the walk to work because it's better than staring at the same streets and people that I do every day.

I think because I left it a few days before getting into it, I've never been able to catch up with the gyms around me so I've never gotten into the competitive side. Team Yellow all the way though!

I'm much more excited about Sun and Moon ; )

Pokemon go is okay but I find there's not allot to do. You can't battle wild Pokemon or trainers, you can't trade or breed and the map is...well real life but in sorta glossed over 3D. Plus it takes so much memory and data to run! Also that dumb AR camera thing doesn't work all the time which defeats some of the purpose.

The Big Z Kahauna is going to stick to the games the way they were meant to be played: For free on an emulator.  ;D
