Final Fantasy XV
« on: December 12, 2016, 11:39:26 AM »
Hello everyone. Sorry I've been a bit absent recently. I hardly ever seem to use the internet on my laptop these days...

Has anyone been playing FF15? I'm a fair way in now. Spoilers excluded, how are you finding it? It's got it's faults but I'm enjoying it far more than I expected.

I'd like to know if it's worth my time. FFX was so bad that it ruined any future prospects for the series for me, and was the last numbered FF I've played. Is this more of that kind of garbage, or is it time for me to return?

I absolutely loved it! I've already platinum'd it on the Playstation 4. It was a lot of fun to play. The story was pretty concise, but interesting and keeps you invested. The real meat of the game lies in the sidequests, similar to Majora's Mask.

The music is wonderful, the battle system is very fun, the characters are very likable, and the presentation is top-notch. One of the best videogame experiences I've had in a long time.

That being said, it's not perfect. There's a few frustrating parts, most of which are optional post-game things. One part of the story outstays its welcome, but apparently their patching that to make it better.

Gonna get it at the start of next year, going away for 2 weeks now. But the movie was okay.

I just hope it's a nwetter open world rpg than Xenoblades Chronicles X, that one had potential but made me dissapointed.

And also Archem, I would say that FFX is the last reasonable numbered FF, FFXII was the low point. But Bravely Default is a neat FF

I'm actually playing FF Type 0 at the moment on the PS4. I figured I should play it before XV since they are both part of the crystal fabulous thingy. It's quite different to be blunt but still feels like an FF game.
Did anyone else bother with type 0?

Also, have there been any news on the DLC for XV yet? They made it sound like they had a whole batch during a presentation some time back.

I played the PSP version and was pretty disappointed. I still think that if this game wasn't called Final Fantasy, not much people would have wanted it outside of Japan.
The gameplay is very limited, the NG+ included in the first NG (Hello lvl99 Behemoths when you're level 10), the world was underused, and the narration very bad, which is expected from a mission-based game. THe PSP version had no EXP Share which basically left most of the cast useless, cause there are not enough missions to keep everyone on a good level for the main scenario. Without mentionning the ending. I've had a lot of problems with recent FF endings recently. LR for example was just a joke on every level, and the ending was one of the worst I've seen in any games I played.

As for FFXV, never been hyped for it, still not. I've read a few reviews and from what they say it's not a very good game, the story is really lame and needs Kingslaive and Brotherhood to be watched, the openworld is empty etc.... In general what I've read doesn't make me want it, and it's the first main FF I don't want xD But if people enjoy it, really good for them, we've been waiting for this game for so long after all.
Also I remember the time when it needed 60h to finish an exceptional main quest in the PS1/PS2 games. Since FFXIII we got back to the old style where you need 20h to 100% the games (I had 100% on XIII-2 in 19h and LR in 21h...) with a really bad story. I don't understand that. SE is big enough and has enough talents to make an excellent plot and long game worth 80€.

1. I never watched any of the supplementary material for FFXV, and had no problem following or enjoying the story.

2. People saying this game is bad wanted to hate it before they even tried it. The internet is a hate-filled cesspool in this day and age, that will rally to hate anything expected to be popular before it's even released. The negative opinions of this game existed before the game did. See Gamefaqs.

3.  The game has been teased and *developed* for 10 years, and the amount of hype has been staggering. Needless to say it had really high expectations to live up to. For me, I never let my expectations get out of control. I never expected it to be the super-most-perfect-awesome game on earth ever, and because of that, I'm not disappointed in the least, it was a great game.

4. What makes a story good is subjective, only you can decide if you like it or not. It's not a very long story admittedly, but it kept me entertained and curious to see what would happen next.

5. I... Didn't like Final Fantasy Type - 0. I felt like they introduced a new way to 1 hit KO my characters every two seconds. It was a frustrating game.

I disagree with the world being underused. Some of the sidequests were pretty samey but it's a cool realistic world designed to be driven through. Hopefully they'll learn from comments about the story being disjointed and next FF will be even better. I really felt the touch of classic FF with 15, but with plenty of innovation. Sort of FF12 feel done right, with elements of 8 and Lightning Returns.

This could only be a good thing I think?

I own the game now, it was waiting for me in the mailbox when I got home. Haven't played it yet though.

Also, speaking of FFXII, wasn't they going to give it a 5$remake?

So I finished Type 0 and I get why people say it has a terrible ending. That was worse than Xenoblade X. At least it has some sort of new game + with additional missions and scenes but I donno, didn't enjoy the game that much. The battle system was new and kinda enjoyable for a while until just became a chore for grinding bombs in that northen pass cave.
But who wrote this story? Even FFIX's final boss made more sense, and it made no sense!

Started playing FFXV now, it starts of a bit goofey but gets better along the way, it's just pretty different from other games that I need to remind myself that it's a modern FF. It has some things similar to the FFXIII series when it comes to gameplay and the like but still pretty unique. I kinda hate myself for failing the small AP missions from time to time. Like during quests when your bros set up a strategy but you get too close to the enemy and aggro them and just end up doing a Leroy Jenkins. Still trying to get a hang on things but it's a lot to learn about it so far.

But it seems good!

Don't stress the AP missions, just try to unlock some of the AP boosting skills, like Chocobo Riding gives you AP.

An AP tip that I didn't notice for a while into the game, is that if you kill an enemy with a warp-strike, you get 1 AP, so if you see an enemy with low health, just snipe 'em, and you'll be on your way to those expensive skills in no time.

I also noticed that link strikes does this as well.

But it's hard to keep yourself from just throwing in a thundara at those packs of MTs being dropped of the carriers. I haven't had much problem so far with enemies and such, but does the game get more grindy later? I saved up lots of exp before sleeping at an Inn with a 2x bonus and dinged like 7 times.

Also, PSN name is joffa8888, brother's old that I took when he moved out.

Exp isn't hard to get at all, but you do have to go out of your way to save up enough AP, even with the warp strike thing. Trying to save up 999 to break Gladio's skill damage limit and it's a nightmare :p

Do y'all like the fishing? I really got into it.

Not having too much trouble with AP so far, but mostly because I assumed that a lot of skills are supposed to come later and that there is some way to get a lot of AP in the future.  I have ap for fishing, chocoboing, driving, making camps and all that. You get some extras from it, but it's mostly from battles. Blindside link strikes, counter and warp strike kills all give one. And if you happen across one of those Niff dropships you can usually get like 10 or so from the pack. I have unlocked some 99 cost skills so far but still on chapter 4 (I always get sidetracked in these open world games). Quick question though, the wait mode nexus. It's only useful if you decide to play with the wait mode battle right?

I actually like the fishing it's well designed and there isn't a wait time for something to hook on. Lots of game have that as a main thing, pokémon, WoW, Terraria and it gets pretty boring. FFXV has actual fishes fishing around in the fish lakes and you just need to lure them. I guess my biggest problem is that I just don't know what fish there are in the lake. There are different baits for different kinds of fish but you don't know what fish are in the lake to begin with. Some fishing spots have a notice board mentioning some of the species but other times you just have to go with guesswork. I also wish there was some way to repair the fishing line durability, I usually end up buying a whole lot of them and then swap them out when they reach halfway or so, feels like a waste.
