Community contest: the draft
« on: April 19, 2004, 11:43:43 AM »
I was thinking something... And here you can see the draft!
http://charas-project.net/contest_community.php

What do you think?
The idea is simple (and probably with at least 7-8 months as deadline) and i think it would be very funny, to give communities a way to show what they can REALLY do.
Around the net, i'm so tired to see just "talking communities": so much blahblah but at the end, nothing.
We're passionate game developers? Well, let's make a game!
We need a target to do this? Well, the target is this contest!

We can use our "Charas power": we're international and known everywhere, so i think we can really propose something like this.

Any comment/idea is appreciated, i'd really like to turn this into reality!

Of course, Charas will be one!
I really hope we can find users who'd like to "fight for Charas's honor", no? ;)

What about the differents languages?
There're Italian communities, French ones, German etc...
Maybe German Com. program in English, more difficult for Italians I think, or we must have international judges who can speak all languages?

Beautiful idea, if realiable... (J)

Uhm, i guess we should add an "only english" rule....
I know that for someone this may be a limit, but on the other hand the games must be understandable by everyone.

That's cool!
Anyhow, before looking for who'll made the Charas game, we should define well the rules.
What do you think of the draft?
We need to finish it before doing anything else.

I just noticed something about the rules... it says every resource must be original, right? That could be a MAJOR problem for music, sound effects, and chipsets. Maybe it would be a good idea to change that rule a bit for those resources? :-/

That's true, i thought about this.
But, on the other hand, i'm looking at a target: games really built from scratch by partecipants.
I don't know the status of users in other communities, but have i really to imagine they have not one single user able to do some midis? Or some chipsets?

I know it's hard, but i'd like to see real works, this time. And this means creations too.

I agree that sound effects could be "imported", but music and chipsets are definitively IMPORTANT things in a game. How may i allow imports of them in order to judge a complete game, which is the final target?

Alex says true, every community have many people members and everyone is able to do something, so graphics like musicians, sound effects maybe imported, midi's must be originals!
Let's do something special with this battle, right? :jumpin:

Oi, well... Since I'm a mere Spriter in Training I'm going to be pretty useless in the graphics department. Having no idea how to work with midis I'm going to be useless in the music area...

sound effects... the best I've ever done was celeberity impersonations... so that would be useless as well... darnit... I guess I better think of somthing...

things that should be discussed first. if not, there could be a shortage of hands/recruitment.

Storyline
Victorian style? Modern Style? Futuristic Style? A mix of Victorian and Futuristic? (FF)
Plot
Character(s)
Character Design
Races
Music Style
Battle Style
Names of almost everything. items, skills, towns.. etc

if we can't use rm2k3 then that means a CBS for rm2k cuz that's what the majority of what charas' members use. it could be really really good. i mean really good stuff. lookie.. CBS = anything could be in it. let's try something else and animate the monsters this time. this was something i wanted to do but i was too lazy.. lol.. meaning that monsters would also have charsets if a CBS was made.

i could do original charsets.. but i can't right now.. i promised myself that i'd do all my stuff first before doing stuff for others.
