Heh, downloading songs from Kazaa or something is "legal" in Canada, "legal" meaning they can't prosecute you for doing it. A judge ruled that downloading songs is like browsing a library, so he said they couldn't press charges. And the record companies are making too much money anyways.
I'm not sure about ROMs or RPGMaker, but I don't use those a lot anyways.

None of them are legal. But, so what? If they charge so much for those products they should expect ppl to look for cheaper ways^^. AND, even with all the pirates, the make an absurd profit. Letīs give some for the poor...Anyway, when it comes to my fav artists i buy the original CD cuz i want the whole thing. But if a bands svcks and was lucky to make 1' good music, no way iīm gonna buy a whole cd for 1 song right? And, about RPGM, i dinīt know where to buy it in Brazil, so i donīt give a #%@.

ROMs are only legal in Canada if the cartridge for that game is no longer in production, but that doesn't stop most people.
There's almost no way you can get caught unless you own the ROM site. You can get caught in file sharing programs if you allow people to upload from you.

Wow, you sound like one of those conspiracy freaks(no offense). And we don't all know the main sites for ROMs. I just google for them, as do most other people. Reread my post and you'll see the reason why they don't go after ROM sites. But they can bust them if they want to. I don't know why you think they can't, or where thise new years eve crap came from.

And Kazaa is watched, and they find people. A LOT of people were sued a while back, if you remember. The publicity died down a bit, though, but they still patrol Kazaa and other networks. Don't underestimate the man, let them underestimate you.

When I say we all know the main rom sites I don't mean literally we all know (duh..) The New years thing. On dateline they were talking about people downloading movies and games (again) and they said after New years they'll start sueing people again. (Don't know what's so special about sueing after New Years) But yeah, that's what they said movie companies and such will start filing individual law suits against people after New years...
If they partroling networks. They sure aren't doing a good job of it.

Rest assured, I don't think there's any way Enterbrain (just to use an example) can fully track down exactly how many copies of their RM2K software have been downloaded.  I actually got my 2000 software before I even knew it was illegal (of course, I've refused to delete it even now that I know ;) )

Anyway, as far as downloading songs and stuff, the reason there's such a big stink is because the record companies are complaining that they're losing $$.  This is all about the dollar.   They make like they're concerned about copyright infringement and stuff, but this is really all about $$.  The record companies want more of it, and music fans are getting the same music for much cheaper (in some cases free) off the internet.

Seen the prices of a good CD nowadays?  Through the roof.

On the same topic, anyone use ITunes?  What is it and what's your opinion of it?
