Computer Troubles

Im having problems with my computer.  It keeps restarting on its own.  It started off about 1 a week, which I was fine with.  Then, gradually, it became 3 times a week.  Then, it became every night.  Now, I'm lucky to stay on for 20 minutes at a time.  I have many theories:
*Power cords are bad
*Processor is bad
*I somehow manually set it this way.
*I have been running too many processes at once
*I've been leaving my computer too long at times, so maybe something inside died.

I've checked to see if it was a virus.   I've updated and scanned my computer with Norton, Spybot, and Ad-Aware Pro, 3-5 times each.  So I know its not that.  If youve had a similar problems, please share how you fixed it, or, if you simply know what I could do, please share.  Thanks in advance.

Are you using windows? If so, thats probably your problem. I reccomend Mac or Linux.

You wouldn't know how to use *nix if it bit you on the nose. /touch yousuck.mock

Check the powersource if it all just POOFS off. Otherwise it might be something to do with the house current or some wierd program/setting I know not of.

If this is the case...SAVE YOUR NEEDED FILES!!!! Not on the computer, but to a disk, or something else. For, you do have a virus. I think it's known as Saster. You won't find it with a virus protection program, it's already imbeaded into your system. Sorry, I'm not positively sure of what to do, but save all the files that you wish to keep, and hurry up, you may not have much time. I think that what you might have to do is reformat your whole system. *This shall be deleted if it is not the problem*

in my case it was the welchia worm virus

Oh, well, I wasn't totally sure of the name, but the problem it caused...dang that sucked. It didn't happen to my comp. but my parents' who had pretty much all business and work files on it. All lost. You never know, this may not be the problem, but like I always say, better safe than sorry.

Check if you gremlin is still alive. (yes reference to Gremlims 1)

Once this happened to me, and it was the CPU fan (powder on it).
You may try to take it and clean it deeply.

This happens sometimes when I play Starseige Tribes. But that's just because it's an old *** game. May help... maybe... kinda sorta.

Damn you Alex! I was gonna say that! Anyway,itd probably the processor cooler that died...when ur turning the comp on, enter CMOS and check the cooler rotation...if itīs 0, replace it.

Just so u have no doubts regarding virus possibilities, go to www.symantec.com and use a online virus checking...if you have the time, do an security checking too, itīs really usefull.

Ive, narrowed it down to possiblities thorugh fiddling around with it.
1) running too many processes at once
2) Bad power cords.

It is not the fan, because I have three of them in there.  I popped open my computer, and all three of them were running fun.  they ran up until it restarted again.  I have reason to believe its the power cords, but, I just recently bought these.  I think I might have too many things goin at once.  Im not positive, because sometimes it restarts when I have my normal things goin, and sometimes it doesnt.
