Before I get too involved
« on: March 17, 2005, 03:48:44 AM »
I finally came up w/ a plot for RPGM2K and wanted to run it by you guys before I got too involved. LONG PLOT TIME!:

Thousands of years ago there was a great war between the 4 elemental dragons of Fire, Water, Wind and Earth, along with the Hades and Ancestral, the 2 governing dragons. After this war, which lasted more than 2,000 years, all 6 dragons passed on. With their dying breath's each dragon created a race in it's own image. Fire birthed Magonians (fire-like creatures), Water birthed the Merpeople, Wind birthed the Elves, Earth birthed the Drwaves(sp?), Ancestral birthed Humans, and the Hades birthed the Dei' Chaks (humanoid dragons). In honor of their creators, each race created a blade from the flesh and blood of the corresponding dragon. Sengal (main char) is the son of a human and dei' chak, a forbidden act, but once a child w/ any dei' cak blood is born, it is also forbidden to kill them. In order to seek retribution for the act they take hs mother and father instead.
It is possile to ressurect one of the dragons by dripping the blood of the races leader on the blade and place the blade with the dragon's few remains. When Sengal hears the dei' chaks plan to do this very act he steals the Hades Blade and seeks out to destroy the other blades along with Eiphen, the last monk of the Ancestral Covenant, weilder of the Ancestral Blade.

End of long story. If anybody has any ideas or sees any plot gaps please tell me before I'm halfway throught the game like on my last one.

It seems pretty good. There are a lot of games that involves wars in the past, so it may be considered cliche, but it shouldn't matter too much because it works well with the story.

If I were you, I wouldn't release the information of the war and stuff right away in the intro, because 90% of all games with past wars do that, so if you can do it well, I'd wait a little bit before you give out that info. I don't know if it would work out well for what you were planning though, so just do what is best.

Good luck with this :D

Well, the war isn't really part of the game, it's just there to introduce the draons and tell how they died.

Nothing really wrong with it...

But the "humans=good" thing always bugs me, mainly because it's about as far from the truth as possible... also it's the most overused fictional idea in existance (even "save the princess" is less overused).

Of course, you might not have the humans as the whole "good and kind and all those other lies" race, but by the whole "made in their image" thing I kind of got that impression.

Having humans good isn't a cliche, and thus if it would be like that in every single game, it still wouldn't be overused. Cliches are specific events that are overused in games such as the princess being kidnapped, or the hero's town being destroyed, or setting out to look for crystals. On the other hand, humans being good is more like a stereotype. Considering we ourselves are humans, it is just the natural thing to make humans the good guys.

I think it's a really cool idea. If you get more in-depth about it(not telling us I meant in making your story)that would be cool.

Yeah, and trust me, there really isn't going to be any "good" race. When I came up with this I did my best to remove any and all cliches to make it just about as original as I could, which it seems like I did. Kewl.

Heh. Not trying to start an argument or anything, but if an idea was used or implied in stories hundreds of years before any of us were born, and is still used today in stories/video games/etc... it's pretty overused.

FF1... all humans are good besides those named Garland and those who wear dark-colored armor and live in the Mirage Tower. And pirates.
FF2 (j)... all (or very close to all) humans are good besides those associated with the one Evil Empire in the world.
The Bible... all humans started out good until somebody messed up.
Dragon Warrior 1... all humans are good except those that just happen to be wizards of any kind or knights that wear face-covering helmets.
The whole Mario series... all humans are good, unless their names start with "W", and even they aren't ALL bad.
Every alien movie known to man... all (or very close to all) humans are good. And the aliens just want to kill us for no apparent reason. If a human's evil they're probably being mind-controlled by the alien overlord.

...and so on. Humans=Good is very very overused. Probably more than most overused RPG stereotypes (dragons=always bad and love having tons o' money even though they have no use for it, dwarves=wear funny hats, slimes=weakest enemy, old men with beards=either wise or crazy/perverted, quiet girls=healing magic users, and so on).

Of course "All Humans=Bad" isn't such an innovative idea either, but still.

::de-offtopicifies::

What are each of the different races like (since you mentioned that you tried to get rid of as many of the cliches as possible)?
So far all we've really heard about any of them, is that the half-dragons want to ressurect Hades.

Hope this is what you were looking for:

Magonians: Fire- larger (Avg, ht 10 ft) creatures adapted to intense heat with a violent mentality and a society based on war and violence. Many cities are built beneath global hot spots around the globe. The Pyros Hulk is only used as a sign of leadership now.

Dwarves: Earth- average sized (6 ft) people with a peaceful society. Two clans are ste up near rivers and mountains with the richest soil for farming and agriculture. Can create the greatest weapons due to metals found in the rich soil. The Terran Edge was lost in the collapse of the first city.

Merpeople: Water- not half fish people, merely just people who live beneath the surface of the oceans. Not as clan based as other races, but more closely related to the human race. Many cities around the globe with the capital, Latasia, in center ocean. The Aquarius Sickle has been kept in the possesion of Leviathan, and mysterious creture that protects the city.

Humans: Ancestral- least clan based of all races. Dominant race on the surface due to a massive population. The Ancestral Blade has been in the hold of the Ancestral Covenant, lost to the rest of the populus.

Elves: Wind- most unknown race because their capital is floated above the globe by the power of the Zephyr and Gale Shiv's. Light and speedy, yet weak in physical strength, they may be the best stealth warriors.

Dei' Chak: Hades- Single clanned race that dwells in a dormant volcano. They have large wings protruding from their backs with an appearance closely resembling that of an ancient dragon (horns, claws, fangs, etc.). They treasure the Hades Bane, their blade, more than other race does their own.

If anyone wants to know anything just ask. I want to get this as perfect as I can.

Hmm.. Dwarves aren't so short, Elves live in floating cities rather than the middle of forests, fish-people aren't so... er... fishy, and humans are only the dominant species because of their ridiculous ability to reproduce (just like in real life! unfortunately for the rest of life on Earth)... Pretty good job at the attempt to remove cliches.

And... ELVEN NINJAS! Heh. Sorry, just had to mention that when you said elves were the best at stealth-based fighting.

Looks good so far!
