Hmmph. Well, it's in my game anyway. Besides, robot animals of some kind are used even more, and are just as bad.
In my game, the Giant Lobster thing works in a similar way to the X-ATM sequence in FF8. (Run away, if it catches you, fight it, after you've done so much damage game forces a flee, rinse and repeat)
Another type of monster that I like is to take two of the weaker monsters in your database, and fuse them into a new monster. It's surprisingly underused.

Sure, FF7 had the Materia Keeper, and FF8 had the Grand Mantis, but I see no Needlebugs in the Complete Resources!
