Importing pictures without losing colours
« on: December 28, 2006, 02:52:35 PM »
This is a short but efficient tutorial.

Requirements:
-Photoshop

Purpose:
-Importing pictures(and sometimes other things) without colour loss.

----------------
Perhaps you have been throught it before: you have a nice picture but you can't import it! So, you make it 256 colours and you can finaly import it!
Wait a minute! Ugh...the colours are all messed up!
This small tutorial will show you how to improve this.

Example(just randomly made to show the difference):

Before http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/6230/test1zk1.png

After http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/6595/test2er7.png

(When importing the 'After' the colours are still a little bit seperated but way less then 'Before', check it out yourself)

Now, this is what you have to do:
Open photoshop and open your file. Go to 'File', select save for web.
At 'Settings' you chose: PNG-8 128 Dithered and beneath that choose in stead of 'GIF', 'PNG-8'.

Select save and there, you're done! You can now import your image without colour difficulties.

Or you can just use Ultimate Paint, which is legally free.

Why should you care about legality?  After all, this site is dedicated to programs that are, for the most part illegal.

What ever happened to UFX?  It's perfect for saving pictures as any file type at any level of anything (pratically), but it's no longer on UltimatePaint's site?  Meh.

I feel that it is important to state that this site is dedicated to creating sprites and other graphics, not illegally downloading programs.

A photoshop tutorial is also okay, just like an RPGMaker programming tutorial is okay, because its only useful if you have the program. How you get the problem isn't any of our business and we take steps to make sure it remains not our business.

Just wanted to clarify that. Carry on.
