Maybe a little of both, but the point being that $16k dollars is only a fraction of even a minimum wage yearly salary, and these athletes train for *years* to do this, and they don't get the 16k unless they get GOLD, which means they're literally the best in the world. The reward: work ratio is completely out of whack as far as making money goes, making it functionally negligible. Their time would literally be better spent at McDonalds, and they don't have to be better than anyone there.
