Olympics is good for all of them poor africans and asians and whatnot that just won't (canīt?) compete in the world cup.
And it's only once every 4 years so let the jocks get their sportgasm for some weeks.

I WAS SO EXPECTING THAT HE WOULD SHOW I CRIED WHEN HE DIDN'T.

I really did.

Even though Matt already did carry the torch.

I'm kinda pretty sure it's about money for the actual people that are competing.
I know it's a bit late, but I don't think you realise how ridiculous this statement is, Lucas.

Most of the athletes train constantly for very little reward.  Hell, you don't even win money for winning in the olympics.  They work tirelessly to become the best because they want to be great.  There's very little in this world that's less about the money than that.

Not quite true. Athletes are compensated a certain amount if they win medals, determined by their home country. US gold medal winners get $25,000 (which is taxed $9,000). Not much, but other countries pay out way more...Italy pays the most, $182,000 to any gold medal winner.

Oh snap, $16 thousand bucks are on the table, and all I have to do is BE BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD?!

My starting bonus at my job was just under that, and I'm 29.

I believe the point is that if you just wanted to make money any decent job would do, you don't have to be a world famous athlete/movie star/singer.  And if you want to make a lot of money you gotta climb the corporate ladder like a cactuar. So it's probably not about the money for most athletes.

I feel it's kind of awful that our society rewards someone THAT much just because they can kick a ball into a goal and make the masses happy for that, but if you get a job where you actually try to do some good for humanity, you won't make even close to half that amount.

kick a ball into a goal

They barely even manage to do that.

Soccer is useless. 90 minutes of people with bad cardio that walk around a huuuuuuuuuge field doing nothing. And then they miss the goal when they actually try. They make approx 1-2 goals each games and note that each match is still 90 frigging minutes. Better just watch the highlights of the game on the sports later that night.

Interesting. the second quote box got a different colour.

Guys I hate soccer too. But the world needs a muse. The reason why they get paid that much its because they are the gladiators of our time. The "finest" by corporate picked baggots.

Did you buy that BS? Because I half way did.

So everything can't be a 1:1 comparison to the ancient world. Lesson learned. Next time, don't do that, and you might get the point instead of going for the throat over semantics.

Ok, I'm not in a great mood, so I'll go with a modest "**** you" and leave. Your attitude regarding the topic is utter ****, and makes the whole thing unnecessarily difficult.

I believe that soccer players get a lot of money because they are forced to play for 90minutes. With limited substitution (3) each game you don't need to pay as many players since only 7 are on the field and they will just go about saving their strength.

Would be a much better sport with hockey rules or something of the kind. Smaller field, more substitutes, no whistleblowing when laying down ect.

Olympics is almost over now. Still don't get why they turn every martial arts into a point collection competition. Wrestling, boxing and all they asian stuff. Only becomes getting a higher score than the other. I want to see some actual fighting spirit in those.
