Meh, FF7 is okay, in my opinion, but not the best RPG I've played. I just felt that the plot was too over-complicated all at once, and I ended up not really knowing what I was doing. Maybe I wasn't paying attention. I hate it when I play a game so much that I forget the plot.

I am aware that someone, probably Razor, will now say something along the lines of "You sir, are a fool".

The controls bothered me.

But the game has a lot going for it. The maps are some of the best I've seen, even surpassing FF8, which is my favourite FF to date. The characters are also excellent. And so on.

As to hype, I find that many un-hyped games are better than some severely hyped ones. I'm currently playing Shining Soul II. I'd never heard of this game prior to buying it. In fact, I went into the shop for FE : tSS, but I definitely wasn't disappointed. The game is fun and addictive, if a little clichéd and lacking in mini-games. But still, for a tenner, it ain't bad. :)

BTW, has anyone noticed that the dialogue in Enix games is very slangy and casual? Or is it just me?

Cid, Cloud and Barret. Tifa and Red XIII were extras and Vincent and Yuffie... well screw them.

Ranting and spoilers, so Drighton might not want to read this.

I played FF7 all the way through once. I never owned a PlayStation so I played it on a friend's. It was okay. I can understand the hype. Despite being dated, the graphics are aeons above anything that had been previously seen in RPGs. The Materia system is also pretty interesting. And it's modern, which I really didn't care for, but some parts were done very well (i.e. the entire opening in Midgar.)

I really disliked the entire cast though. Cloud is a psycopathic liar. Sephiroth is a self-dillusional maniac. Aeris is so sweet as to be totally unbelievable. Barret REALLY cares about the Planet, which is why he swears constantly around anyone, including small children. Yuffie and Vincent got so little screentime as to not be worth mentioning. Red XIII is the typical very boring nonhuman that has a connection with the earth.  Tifa actually had some potential, having a touching past with Cloud, but let's face it, she's a whore. The only one I didn't DISLIKE was Cid, who wanted to go into space, couldn't, and was bitter about it. Pretty realistic guy. Very unimportant to the plot though.

The last half of the plot made no sense at all. Come to think of it, the first half was pretty sketchy too. Who Sephiroth is and how he's going to acomplish what he wants to do is needlessly drawn out and absurd. In the second half SHINRA comes up with a plan to save the world. 1) blow up the Meteor with a rocket. 2) shoot off Sephiroth's dome with a big laser. For reasons that STILL BOGGLE ME, Cloud's party disables the rocket that's going to impact the meteor. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU IDIOTS?! They went after the laser too, but SHINRA was smart enough to see them coming and fire it before they could get there.

Bottom line, I didn't like the story and I didn't like the cast. Some of the minigames were pretty fun though. It's not a game I would have called a classic, but I'm not a rampaging mob of fanboys, so oh well.

OH GOD SAI! You ruined it for me!

:p Its okay, I'm following a walkthrough, since I don't have hours on end to spend figuring out what I need to do and where I need to go and how to beat boss X.

I would actually consider using a cheat for invulnerability, cause I'm really only interested in the story and how it develops (that seems to be the game's biggest quality) rather than playing through all the little, ,tedious, random battles spread out all over the place that make a 10 second task (go across room, flip switch, go to other side where door just opened) turn into a 10 minute task.

I can't remember a part of the plot I understood fully. So, Cloud has to go through a village and run across a snowfield for some reason. And then he decides to snowboard down a hill and jump off a big ramp. And then he wades across Ice Floes and collapses. Then some guy picks him up. And then he decides to climb a mountain.

And then Dragonium turns off the PlayStation and goes for a cuppa.

Seriously, the fact that Cloud is on Anabolic Steroids and Prozac does not hide the fact that that quarter of the game has NO discernable plot whatsoever.

Meh, SaiKar-Aftershock-Rant over.

First off, they wanted to stop the rocket because it had the HUGE materia, which was very valueable, and could possibly help them. Besides, they didn't think it would work anyway. Second, they didn't try to stop the lazer, they tried to stop Hojo who was overloading it, Hojo was also trying to help seph because he had hand in creating him.

The whole idea of following seph around I thought was boing, but his actual plan was simply brilliant (in my opinion). All bad guys are pshycopaths, some have no reason what-so-ever for being that way, but seph kinda did. He wasn't always a bad guy, though I think he really over-reacted...

Yes, Tifa was a whore. I bet she did Red XIII too when the others weren't looking.

My opinion, I prefer Kuja and Seymour over Sephiroth every day.
Kuja, well, how many bad  GUYS wear a thonge?
And Seymour, he was just brilliantly phycopathic. "To save the world, Í'll become Sin and destroy it all! *evil laugh*"

Seymour is the only villian who could have a beer belly and wear floppy turquoise trousers and get away with it.

My friend, upon playing FFIX for the first time, was convinced that Kuja was a pretty hot chick. He was fairly alarmed to find out that he was a guy. Even the characters in the game make fun of Kuja's girly face. It's pretty awesome.

I didn't like to play FF9 it was boring to me, and I didn't like the music, or the attacks, or characters, except Blank. I watched my mom beat it (oh yes my mom fuckin rocks. She played FF1 before I even heard of it, practically started me off on RPGs), though, and it wasn't that bad, as long as I wasn't stuck playing it.
I have played every FF except 3, the one with the onion kids/knights something,  and XI, because I've become poor, lol.
I liked 4 & 6 & 7 the most, I think.
FF7 is good. I got for my 12th or 11th birthay, maybe 13th. I liked the materia system, but it was like a step down from the esper & relic system, if you think about it.
I loved the limit break system, but I wish you could do them that easy in 6, i've only seen Terra's limit break, if I remember right.
The motorcycle minigame was my favorite and then the snowboarding one.
I beat 7 twice, and then a third time with the gameshark for fun.
I don't think 7 had anything wrong with it.
Sephiroth was cool, and at time I know everyone liked how strong he was in the battles in the flashback. I kept trying to get him in debug mode using the gameshark, never worked for me.
Seymour wasn't all that great to me. I don't know why. beating him was really easy, too.
Kuja looked cool. I didn't fight him, so i can't say anything more, but my mom took him out so easily it was even funny. but hey, she's great.
I'm gonna say the mass of monsters on the way up to fighting Kefka was a hard fight. but in a sense the weapons from 7 the 3 gods on 6  kind of were the same.
I don't really think the 12 games (1-10-2 & 11) were meant to be compared.

I think sephy was a lot cooler than any other FF bad guy. FF1 you had garland who you beat up in the begining of the game. FF5 you fight a tree, FF6's Kefka reminded me of a clown, FF8's was actually pretty cool, FF9's was just disturbing with the lack of cloaths. Seymore was just bland, fat, and stupid. Sepheroth's plan to 'save the world' by crashing a huge rock into the planet, thus the planet would gather its energy to heal itself, and while it dose that, seph will be there right at the center, merging with the lifesteam to become a god.

I'm really picky about final bosses in a game, seph is one of the few I actually liked. Even bosses from my my favorite series Star Ocean, Chrono, and Breath of Fire didn't have bosses that could compare.

Plus, you can't beat seph's sword. I was even thinking about buying a replica of it (as well as a buster sword), but I never got around to it :(
