Iīm not talking about sex.

See, thereīs always that idea, that thing you really, really wanted to do, but someone, damn him, did it first. It can be a character, it can be a song, a story, and so on.

Like the attached picture. That guyīs called Jacques. Heīs a character from Suikoden3. Heīs cool, heīs strong, he uses a huge (really huge) crossbow as a weapon. He doesnīt speaks much (he doesnīt speak at all, actually...) and he does stuff and stays quiet. Heīs cool.

Iīd love to be the author of that. But Iīm not. Iīm too late (and lack talent...but thatīs not the point).

What you, reader, do when you find yourself in this situation?

1) Copies it, with no shame, and say itīs yours.

2) Does your own thing, which is actually a slightly modified version of the original.

3)Bang your hear against the wall, wishing the authorīs death.

4)Cries and ruins the shitty trial of a similar quality thing you were doing, ruining it with the tears that drop.

5)Takes the money your Dad gives you every week (that good-for-nothing 1 million dollars...) and buys the legal rights over the picture/music/whatever.

ATENTION: You may say what you think about the character I posted, but I donīt really asked that...Letīs not flame me though...

I would let it be an influence to me.. not really copy and modify it, but let it "inspire" my own creations.

I try not to copy something entirely if possible. Most everything I do, though, is inspired by another's work.

So #2 mostly.

I would do as Asakura, not steal, not copy and change name stuff.

But you canīt really say that you can copy the personality, look at Vincent and Amarant from Final fantasy, there isnīt much differance between what they do or how they act. Keep quiet nearly all the time and mostly lean against a wall and look on thair feets.
