Tales of Symphonia
« on: March 20, 2006, 03:06:57 AM »
So yeah, now that I have a Gamecube this game became one of the ones on my need-to-get list, and I just got it. At first I didn't play it because my party died a lot, but I've gotten to a point where they can maintain their HP levels throughout fights.

It's a really fun game - I especially love stacking combos since I have Kratos set to attack any enemy Lloyd is attacking, meaning most of them go down FAST.

I'm up to the part where you fight the red-haired guy (Magnius, I believe his name is), and lost, but I've only fought him once. Hopefully next time will be better. I used Lloyd, Collie, Genis' Sister (Forget her name), and Kratos.

The one annoying thing is that you can't unequip weapons, only switch them. This has led to a lot of anger when the weapon I can upgrade is the only weapon I have for that character.

Yeah, I just borrowed it a couple of days ago, and I just started to play it today. I'm gonna be grounded for a while, though, but at least I'm up to the part where I have to replace some people's potion. I hope I get ungrounded really soon. But yeah, I love my 'Cube. SSBM pwnzorz all. And Zelda! Oh, Zelda... I'm such a Zelda fanboy... Not to mention the Metroid Prime games, or the great platforming action from the Mario series. Yeah, it's-a still good on the GameCube.

Yesh, ToS is fun. Kratos is 1000 times better than Zelos (No offense Robotam).

Games to get:
SSBM
Zelda: Windwaker
Baten Kaitos
Soul Calibur
PSO Ver I & II (Really Rare though)
GoldenEye: Rogue Agent

Thats all off the top of my head.

Goldeneye Rogue Agent - Played it on Xbox (or PS2 at my friend's house, can't remember) and it was, well, more or less the same as the first Goldeneye. Fun, but way behind in terms of gameplay nowadays. Maybe I just like to, y'know, JUMP.

PSO - Had it on Xbox and played online for a good 4 months or so. After that you just maxstat a character and get bored. Especially when you start seeing Sonic and Knuckles walking around the lobby. Haxxored! And it gets boring anyway, even without hacking.

Soul Caliber - I MIGHT buy that. I'm not a huge fighting game fan, but it was moderately fun playing the PS2 one.

Baten Kaitos - I've heard both good and bad about this, I'ma look into it a bit more before getting it.

The other two I have. Next game I want to get is Strikers.

My friend has it for PS2. Not my type of game, but watching him play it was fun in itself.

Shadow of Colossus, now THAT's a good game.

Damn right! ^_^

yeah personally, I think you should get soul caliber for GC, IMO its better suited to the GC gamepad anyway.

Theres also Eternal Darkness (Uber Game), an adventure Horror that you really should consider (Perhaps look it up on IGN)

Edit: Magnius was quite simple for me really ^^; but I decided to go for the Wind Shrine first. My number one tip for this fight (and really for the whole game is) assign one of Raine's (Genis' Sister) Healing spells (preferably her best one at the time) to a button.

Man, I never really got into the Tales series, I get about an hour into Tales of Phantasia, and thats it. But with everyone talking so highly about them, I'll have to go and try the newer ones out.

Totally agrees with you, exept for the Mario games, I will never buy Sunshine...

What battle level are you playing on? When you beat the game once, play on Mania, thatīs a real challange all monsters are twice as strong as the ones on Hard, and Hard is twice as good as Easy.

SSBM, the number one cube game, the Windwaker is really good, althrough I hate Ganondorfs face. no idea what Baten Kaitos is...Sorry. I think that Soul Callibur is more of a Ps2 game.
Phantasy Star Online, Man I just canīt find those over here...
But the Rogue Agent...Is really bad I guess, I got it for(not sure but around) 9.9€, only played a couple of levels, seems to run out of bullets, and I hate the aiming...Maybe itīs just because I love the way Metroid Prime is...I donno.

Resident Evil 4 is also a must for the Cube, incredible game, althrough I hate the fact that the one for PS2(worse grafic, I laugh at it reallly, Ganados faces are all messed up) have the Seperate Ways and that weerd gun.
Completed it on the Cube, a friend of mine beat it on Normal without talking to Merchant(no buying, selling or tuning up, larger inventory ect) Only had the starting equipment still he beat it.
Now heīs going to complete it on Normal with only knife and no Merchant, of course there is this one boss that you need a handgun against so he must use it then.

Iīve heard about it, what I read it sounded like there are only eight enemies in the entire games, the colossus themself, huge golem-beasts. Made it sound to short...

The good thing and the largest differance between Resident Evil and ED is the fact that you use melee weapons, and the magic of course. Great game.

I get stuck in Dhaos castle, I nearly always get Surrounded by four orange, floating mages that all charge some spell that damage all my party members 800-900 damage each, when everybody has unleashed their spells im really dead(if im lucky, Cress got like 350hp left). i canīt run, they are blocking the path, and I lost a party member, and my Arche start by doing Fire Balls or something.
--------------------------------

Well back on track and inside topic.

Never buy Apple Gels, stock 2 of each weapon, because you donīt know when you might find them again, and you will realise that the same weapon can get customized into two different.

Make sure that you forbid Raine to do anything else than the healing and recover spells, she really like to waste her tp on Sharpness on herself and Genis. Get the advanced Spells for Genis, and equip that accessory that halve the cost by 1/3.
If you play as anyone else than Lloyd then make sure that you forbid some of the more expensive skills, he should get the title TP-Hater' or something thus he use skills everytime he got a chance.

And now, I canīt remember what I was about to write...So Iīm going to stop writing untill I remember it again.

Edit: And now I did remember it! If youīr able to then play with a friend, ny tip is to put one of you on Lloyd and the other one on Genis.

You are not alone my friend.

Anyway, ToS is what got me into the Tales series, although I'm still only on my second one right now. I haven't really considered getting any PSX Tales game and I don't have a PS2, so after I'm done Tales of Phantasia, I'll just be waiting for the DS one. ToS is a great game. I consider it my 3rd favorite RPG, and it kept me interested from beginning to end. The only thing that really bugged me was that I never got the book of regeneration, which kept me from doing certain sidequests later on.

ToS is also what got me into the tales series. The battle system is so fun, though some of the music in the game is a tad..mehish. (Im a big stickler when it comes to music in RPGs.) Im currently playing Tales of Legendia (as im very fortunate to have both PS2, and a Gamecube.) so far from my view, it doesnt match the quality of ToS. Its a good game still, but some things within it just bugged me alot. Not to mention the Music in ToS was better (and ToS music to me was.. OKAY..) Best Tales game I played so far was Nakiriri Dungeon 2. That japenese Tales game for the GBA which had (I think) all the Tales characters up to ToS within it. Too bad everything was in japanese though :P.
