Alziel sighed as the sunlight broke over the horizon.

It was morning at last. Everyone had returned, and had been celebrating their success for some hours. He looked across the side of the ship, to where there should have been a ship full of soldiers. But before morning came it had crumbled into nothing and sunk into the sea. There were no survivors.

Alziel Her'Shal sat alone on the deck. An hour passed as he stared out to sea.

At around two hours after sunrise, a broad green line appeared on the edge of view. The Western Lands had appeared at last, and only the contestants were there to bear witness. Liara came up the steps and sat down on Alziel's bench.

"Well there it is", she said quietly.

Alziel nodded, not quite knowing what to say.

"I'm going to protect you once we get there", he said calmly. "In fact we should all help each other. But that won't happen, there are too many likely heroes and glory-hunters on this ship. My guess is most will go off alone. Some might travel in groups of two or three, but they'll become enemies once the prize is in sight".

That was true. It would happen to everyone. There was no doubt about that.

He looked across to Liara, and she smiled at him.

"Only about an hour to go. This will be interesting", she said happily. Alziel nodded. It certainly would.

For a moment, he thought he saw a dark speck on the shore of the Western Lands, too small to mark out detail. Then it was gone, and did not appear again.

Ragnar woke up, after a short nap.
He went up to the deck, only to see the western lands in the horizon.
"Well, I guess we are here" Ragnar said, closing to Alziel and Liara, who were sitting down talking.
They both looked at him. Ragnar knew they had some regrets towards him because of the dragons, but Ragnar had not talked about it. "I never apologized for the miswork of my bombs, and I guess I should do it. I'm sorry, those damned things went off before time. I promise to be more careful from now on."

Shell strolled onto the deck and smiled at the rapidly approaching land mass. Then he nodded to Alziel, Liara and Ragnar. "Morning."

The wind was slightly chilly but that was not it's most noticeable feature- it tasted like change. The mysterious sands of the western coasts swirled about a draft of something magical.
Shell walked to his usual spot at the stern of the ship and allowed the frog to hop out of his pocket onto the damp deck, fresh from morning spray as the eager boat made it's final lap towards it's goal.

As the frog lifted it's tiny head and shot it's tongue out to taste the air, Shell noticed another who could feel the strangeness of the east blowing wind. The sprite was distracted, turning to smile and talk to her companion every now and then before turning half confused, half enthusiastic, towards the western lands. She could tell it as well; this place was more than just a continent.

Anyan woke up, after sleeping too much. He had healed the slight wund on his left shoulder with some herbs he had saved, but he had no more. "I have to be more careful..." he thought.

He was more dizzy than before. He recalled getting up the ship after the assault, run, all wet and sweat, before Ragnar, saying "you idiot!" to him and passing out.

He was very pale, and was begging to the gods to reach the West at last. To step into land and stop feeling sick.

He reached the deck, and found Alziel, Liara, Shell and Ragnar talking with each other. He sat beside them and said: "I bet this will be very interesting..."

(Back from the dead!!!!!
 -Emerates)

Saine climbed the stairs to the deck.  Alziel and several others were huddled near the stern, talking and looking ahead.  Saine followed their looks, and understood their excitement.  The West lay on the horizon, growing steadily closer.

Saine closed the distance to the stern with his usual swift stride.
"Good morning, my fellows.  I'm glad to see everyone survived our late-night battle," he said with a broad smile.

Alziel looked slightly bemused.  "Our battle?  I don't recall you showing up for the fight, Saine."

"I was working behind the scenes, places you couldn't.  How do you think you were able to board the ship in the first place, hm?"  Saine looked from Alziel to Liara, then to the other men.  None answered.  "Because I killed the lookouts before you went over."

"How could you get to the other ship, though?  You don't have wings like I do," Liara said.

"In due time, I'll explain my history more fully.  For now, you just need to know that I inherited certain abilities from my father.  That's how I made it to the other ship."  Saine did not expect this to impress anyone: it did not.  Alziel looked quite the opposite.  "The point is, I did my part, just like I said.  It may not have been in your original plan, but it was an effective deviation."

Alziel looked at Saine for a moment.  "Alright," he nodded slowly.
"Good," Saine replied.  "So, I have been meaning to ask you since we departed from the harbor, if I may accompany you on your journeys through the West?"  Alziel looked slightly surprised.  "I have not met any of the other contestants, and I find most of them.... unsavory.  So, I was wondering if I may join you."  Alziel considered a moment, then said....

Anyan got up and left the party when Saine approached. There was something wrong about that man. What kind of skills had allowed him to enter the ship before them?

Anyan noticed Ragnar staring at him. He also thought of this as something weird. And what truly troubled Anyan was the fact that his friend hadn't noticed this either, or he had noticed and hadn't spoken a word of it.

Anyway, this trip was becoming something way more complicated than just writing a map. They had sank a ship full of guards and nobles, and now they were on their way towards the unknown...

What would become of this?

"Alright", Alziel said. He thought for a moment, before adding, "On the condition that we go West as soon as we get to solid ground. Agreed?".

Saine nodded, apparently not suspicious of Alziel's motives for this instruction.

"We can use as many people as we can find", he mused, "But I doubt we'll get more than a few. Everyone else will either go off alone or split into small groups, but like I've said those groups will end up killing each other once the prize is in sight. We're in for a long trip. Making of map of this entire continent, getting all the landmarks and features... that could take weeks, months even".

Liara frowned, considering this, before interrupting as politely as could ever have been possible.

"Excuse me", she said quietly, raising a hand, "How will we survive for that long without provisions?"

"We'll hunt", Alziel replied sharply. "Well, I will. And anyone else who would like to try their hand".

He looked over to Shell, standing watching the sea rising and falling against the side of the ship. Alziel had been a man able to survive for a long time, and he could recognise the same ability in others. Shell might be a useful ally.

"Shell", he called, getting the man's attention, "Are you in?"

He did not wait for a reply. Instead, he stood and looked towards the steadily growing green line on the horizon. It was empty now, but he was almost certain that it would not seem so innocent once they were there.

Who knows, he thought darkly, the stories about that place told to scare small children might well turn out to be true.

A faint shout for help came peering over the starboard hull of the ship..

the sound was of Monty's voice.

He was hanging, by his cloak, over the ships bow, unable to hoist himself up, and looking terribly embaraased.

"Little help?
Alziel?
Liara?...

Anyan?

Old guy?

dammit. Ive been stuck here for nearly 3 hours.Embarrasing. At this rate, Ill be left on the hull for bait."

Shell turned and scrutinized Alziel's expression. "I can hunt. But the fact that we're enemies disturbs me slightly. I don't see it as my fate to be struck down by a teammate."
Alzioel nodded slowly. It was a soul destroying thing, to work alongside those who would eventually turn against him. The only person he could trust was Liara- who had promised to let him take the prize. But could he even trust her word? He glanced to the sprite who was wandering across the deck, seemingly in search of something.

Liara reached the rail and peered down. Upon finally spotting Monty, she smiled and offered a hand. "Are you okay?"

"Im afraid towards the end of the commotion, I was nearly tossed overboards by an ocean swell" Monty shouted to liara :But my god, ye have the voice of an angel to these salinated ears right now, dear sprite. Perhaps you could help a fellow out?"

Sprite wings are not strong- they do not need to be for sprites themselves are very light. This means that they cannot carry other people with them when they fly. Liara had to look for another solution and found one in the various docking ropes that cluttered the deckside. Finding one, she flung it over.

"You've been out here for hours!" she called, surprised, as he groped for the rope with one hand. "Are you sure you're alright? It's very cold outside on the sea, even without the ocean spray."

Anyan was surprised, as he was walking, by the odd sight of Liara throwing a rope from the side of the ship. He was even more surprised, as he saw Monty climbing up, shaking and aparently, cold.

"I was wondering where had you gone!" said Anyan, still a bit dizzy from his sickness, but still finding the situation a bit hilarious, even for such a serious young man: "I believe we are lucky to have lady Liara here with us... no one could really hear your cries for help... if you said anything."

Both men and Liara laughed at the ridicoulous situation.

Anyan helped Monty to get up, still laughing a bit, and said: "Next time we will need to have ropes ready, right my friend?"

Ragnar fet surprised, as he saw monty being pulled up by Liara, with a rope.
"So, that's were he was!!! I thought he was still sleeping...."
Ragnar said, as he closed to Monty, Liara and Anyan.
"Well, I talked to one of the sailors. we should be reaching the West in no time. Maybe we should think about what are we going to say when we come back. I don't really know, but I doubt that the King will let any of us alive if he learns about Broadsword and the ship."
Alziel closed while Ragnar talked, and seemed to be very serious when he finished.
"There he comes!!! I hope he has forgiven me!!!! Cursed bombs!!" Ragnar thought, as he waited for anyone to reply.

Monty was cold, and his outer layers were thoughouly soaked. He was not shaking, which indicated some degree of dryness, despite his obvious discomfort.

Monty was not amused. He thought back repeatedly to the summoning of the flaming beasts from below, and knew it to be sorcery cast in haste, and irresponsibility.

"With the supply ship out of comission, we are at a severe loss. Rations, Equipment, manpower...

...trading goods, information, MY DAMNED HORSE."

Monty looked not himself. His eyes were dark in anger, as he glared suspiciously at rangar...

"Old man...."
Monty took an agressive step in his direction
"Would you know anything, of the display of recklessness regarding those summoned beasts last night?

Because I think you do."

Monty was furious. He had since thrown his wet cloak aside
and had a fistfull of throwing knives at the ready

"not only was this an attack on braodsword, but surely an attack on our own 'allies', if you ask me. Kill the enemy, and sabotage the competition..."
