Shortly after, the media began questioning whether or not Brosnan would reprise the role for a fifth and final time, (in Casino Royale). Brosnan kept in mind that both aficionados and critics were unhappy with Roger Moore playing the role well into his fifties, but here he received popular support from both critics and the franchise fanbase for a fifth installment. For this reason, he remained enthusiastic about reprising his role after his initial contract expired, despite earlier reservations about doing so.

Throughout 2004, Brosnan was rumoured numerous times to have been 'fired' from the role to make way for a new and younger actor. This was denied by MGM and EON Productions. In October 2004, however, Brosnan had been quoted as saying 'it's absolutely over' and that he considered himself fired from the role. Although Brosnan had been rumoured frequently as still being in the running to play 007, he had denied it several times, and in February 2005 he posted on his website [1] that he was finished with the role. In spite of this, rumours continued to circulate that he was in negotiations with the producers, up until Daniel Craig was signed and announced on October 14, 2005. Unconfirmed reports cite that disagreements over creative control and financial terms were why negotiations broke down.

After the announcement of Craig as the next 007, Brosnan's Bond wax figures at all Madame Tussauds venues - including London, New York City, and Las Vegas - were removed. While it may be incorrect to suggest that Brosnan was fired from the role, as technically the producers simply chose not to renew his contract, they had agreed in principle to collaborate on a fifth Bond film before the producers pulled from negotiations. This makes Brosnan the first Bond to end his reign not of his own accord

I also heard they fired him saying he was too old and they needed someone younger. DUDE, this blonde dude looks anceint compared to piercie. Like wth..

I'll see it because I'm obliged to see it. However I agree that the ones based on the books were way better.

ugh.

Everytime a new bond takes office, You hear this discussion.

Its gonna be a Bond movie. There are incontinuities in nearly every Bond flick. Its pulp, man. Get over it.

Its gonna be good, and you know it. Any "hetro" man who boycotts this, because "Ugh...hes blond, and he dosent look young enough"....well..... heh.... do some soul searching.

Its silly. Like saying "OMG! in advent children, Cloud is wearing like, a different suit. His hair isnt as bright a yellow eiter. This is stupid. It makes it lose all integrety. Im  not gonna see it"

Its a franchise series. Its gonna change. Such is the art of Marketing and product development.

If you need to do some "soul searching" because you were a fan of a male actor's performance in movies and are upset to see him go and be replaced by someone who doesn't look at all what (at least in my mind) the role should be, then you are an incredibly insecure person on the verge of homophobia.

I admire Brosnan as an actor and think he did a great job as James Bond, among other movies. OMG I AM TEH GAY SOUL SEARCHING REQUIRED! Um, no.

took that a bit too seriously, Id say.

What i was getting at, Sai, was its a movie about Young James before he was james. They wouldnt have been able to have Pierce in the role, given the timeline. If the Fact that PB isnt in it is going to turn you off of the movie, then youre obviously not watching it primarily to watch it as a bond fan, so much as a Bronson Fan.

Besides, I didnt point it at anyone. I dont remember anybody in the thread saying they were boycotting the film.

Im just saying...yeah pierce was good...but he was no connery...
get over it. Its an eye candy movie. He was a decent bond...by by no means did he define the character. He supplemented it.

Watch the Movie. Enjoy the Movie. In Bond movies, Actors change. Its inevitable.  dont take it so personally... jeez. it a movie.

If they got Young Connery back for some reason, and Cast him, would you be upset? He dosent look at all like the P.B. their hair is dark, but aside from that, they have two distincly different sets of characteristics...

And connery pwnd bronson.

Anyhow, you're right. What I said was a bit stupid. But it was meant as a joke....as to say "Get over it dudes, its a bond flick".
