Stealing programs
« on: January 17, 2007, 10:04:33 PM »
I was wondering how do you copy a microsoft program (I.e frontpage 2003) without having the original owner (i.e library so and so computer, The family computer, etc.) and not coping just a shortcut? This is serious stealing I mean pirating. I plan to hit a college computer.

Probably helps if you stop copying Microsoft Word.lnk.

Go to the program files folder or whereever its stored and copy that.

Before doing anything like this, experiment on your own computer. Find where the files are located typically. Some public computers disable certain ways to get into system folders, so try to know at least a couple ways to get to them.

To copy all the files would require a lot of memory space. Microsoft Office on my computer is about 80 MB. That's pretty low for a program being worth stealing. You'd need at least a flash drive or some other sort of portable memory; floppy disks and email would be far too slow.

I'm not saying this to encourage you, but rather to make sure you understand what you're doing. Long story short, it's infeasable unless the things you want are very small files.

My computer didn't come with frontpage so That's why I plan on stealing it (why pay $120 for the others as well?)

I have a 256 mb flashdrive (actually less is in it due to other small files.)

But I will take your advice Sai. I found no accurate way into the system yet on those computers there (lack of time there.) but I'll use mine as practice.

There is a quick way to find where the shortcut leads to...

1. Right click the shortcut, choosing properties.
2. Click Find Target... to go to where it is.

That simple/

Although I'd feel bad for you having to steal something from a public computer rather than just pirate it on your own, I feel even worse for you because you want to get Frontpage.

Frontpage is THE WORST program to make a website in. The code is messy, full of bugs, and the editor itself is total crap.

I highly recommend Dreamweaver, if you need a WYSIWYG editor. It's way better than Frontpage will ever be. And it links up great with Fireworks for inserting images, cropping them for the web, adding buttons, making a flash toolbar, etc...

See, while that makes the most sense, the exact concept appleas to learning C++ instead of using RM2K3. Even though it's the most sensical, unless you're going into a career involving the design web pages, it will wind up being next to useless is life. If you're an auto mechanic, your time would much be better spent learning how a car works instead of building a web site.
