Good PS2 Games?
« on: April 20, 2007, 10:19:10 PM »
I've got some cash lying around and I want to snag up some good PS2 games. I'll take any good games, but in particular ones that came out a little while ago - they're most likely cheaper and I probably haven't heard of them in comparison to, say, God of War 2 or something.

Games I have:

God of War 2 (Hehehe)
FF12
FF10
Guitar Hero 1 and 2
MGS 3 Subsistence (Or whatever the hell it is)
Tales of the Abyss

Games I have my eye on and don't need recommended:
Shadow of Colossus
Katamari Damacy
Baiten Kaitos
God of War
Burnout Revenge

Games that I hate and don't want:
Kingdom Hearts

In my opinion, Bully and Okami are fantastic.

Bully is Grand Theft Auto for kids. It's based off of Catcher in the Rye, and it's funny.

Okami is like sex. Beautiful graphics, a painting system, blah blah blah it's good. It's a little anime-ish for my taste, but it was made by the guy who made Viewtiful Joe.

I recommend that too.

What?!?! No KH?  Hmm.. I would suggest Kh2... it is easier controls wise, and you can get away with just knowing the main plot from one...  Plus Kh2 is a bit on the darker side.

...hm... Katamari Damshy (sp?) was ok, but I got a bit bored playing it.  Its like, ooo, I have a huge ball made up of all these things...  what is that huge sumo guy doing? ... I got bored after 2 minutes...

It's not the controls that made me hate KH. :)

It's the fact that Disney is popular :P

The Dark Cloud series is really great, give one of them a try.

Um... Half-Life? That's what I played it on first.

Then came the PC version.
And the mods.
And the Earth-shattering passion.

But nevermind that, I say you get one of the Fight Night games. Best boxing experience since Super Punch-Out!!, even if it has a bit of a learning curve in its control system.
But you can get them on XBox and GameCube, too, so...

I hear Killzone's pretty rad.
Various GTAs...
Resident Evil 4 (if you don't have a GameCube)
...

Sex has beautiful graphics, a painting system and was made by the guy who made Viewtiful Joe?

Also, get GTA3. It's easily the best of the 3 3D games.

Easily? I think not. They're all about even in my eyes, just improved gameplay from one to the next.

Actually, I take that back. SA is the best, as it has all the stuff and then  some from past titles.

Klonoa 2 I believe is on PS2. Ring of Red is good, as well as the Armored Core series.

I disagree.
Vice City was enjoyable for a once over, but ultimately it was a flat city, and it just wasn't that great.
San Andreas was fun, too. It had a few good radio stations, enjoyable wide open space and various additions (planes, most importantly).

But when it comes down to it, GTA3's level design stands out from the rest. And 58 minutes of Chatterbox. And various other music that was made instead of bought.

I very much agree that you have to get the Xenosaga games. They're great in graphics, story, music, etc. I'd also suggest getting Devil May Cry. As for the Dark Cloud series, just get DC2 because you don't need to play the first one at all, they're two completely seperate stories with a few similarities, and DC 1 isn't all that great.

As Archem said, get RE4 if you don't have it. It is one of the best ones to date mainly with its control system, but the voice acting is very good too.

I would suggest you get Tales of Legendia, but, despite the great story, they recycle music quite a bit and the combat system isn't as great as Symphonia's and can be difficult at times.

Lastly, if you like fighting games, get Soul Calibur 3. It is excellent in every aspect with fluid controls and you don't need the previous SC games to play it.
