I like macs for recording. For some reason, macs just have better default equipment for recording, and the pro-tools for mac is better.

And their commercials do make them look like cocky, stuck up dicks.

For everything else, especially every day computer use, windows is the way to go.

I also have never used Linux.

Being a person that uses both Windows and Mac frequently, I find it a fairly easy choice. Mac.

Windows is good for programs, but is far to vulnerable to screwing up big time. I can't tell you how many times I have accidentally butchered something using a windows computer. I use all the anti-malware crap, and still manage to have something screw up beyond repair. I have had a problem with it for over two years now that I can't fix, because I, nor anyone else can diagnose it. Windows is prone to breaking down, sure there are things to prolong it happening, but it is inevitable. Something will go wrong with your Windows, no matter how well you take care of it, and no matter how per cautious you are.

Mac on the other hand is pretty full proof, I have had the same laptop for three years (Almost as long as I have had my Windows.) and there isn't a damn thing wrong with it, runs just as fast as the day I got it. The only set back is that there are no programs like Rpgmaker, which I can live without. Most games I play are made by blizzard, which support both Windows and Mac, so I am in luck there.

Windows- Huge Hassle, better compatibility, often cheaper.
Mac-  Almost no hassle at all, Good (not great) compatibility, expensive, but it's all you need in one package.

My Verdict: Get a Mac, and pirate (Or purchase, whatever.) Boot-camp, so you can dual boot windows and run those program you can't live without.

As I am apparently one of like four people on the site who have ever messed around in a Unix OS, it's a bit disconcerting from a Windows or a Mac OS (Dude, like, each piece of hardware is a directory. DUDE.) But with the right IDE, it's very similar. I used KDE and didn't notice that much of a difference beyond different (And many times more varied/featured) default programs and games that come with the OS.

Also, Apex: As Razor has illustrated, Macs can crash just as much or more than Windows computers: I ran Windows XP with no problems for 2 years (And then switched to Vista, which has had no problems whatsoever [Well, technically, there was one time when my graphics card crapped out, but Vista recovered, searched for a solution, and gave me a link to where I could download updated drivers).

Mac: Hey PC.
PC: Hey Mac.
Mac: What you doing?
PC: Playing a game.
Mac: What game?
PC: Any.
Mac: ...

I hear you about Vista by the way.

As I understand it, macs are like those guitar amps that come with built in effects and look really cool and you play with it for days and then you realise that every single sound it produces is hollow and artificial sounding. *COUGHspiderline6COUGH*

Windows is a big amp that you think 'hey that's really loud' but it's not that exciting until you buy some pedals.
HOWEVER in the long run that thing's your best friend.

I used a mac for years. Learned graphics, web design, everything on a mac. When I got a PC of my own that ran on windows, I almost diesd. It was scary. The good news? I didn't have to deal with booting up the virtual PC, which is like a sucky-*** PC inside a sucky-*** mac, everytime I wanted to do something that didn't involve the internet. Up until a while ago, plug-ins for macs weren't as good, either. And the new Mac OS systems are ugly and weird. Hates them. Hates them very much. Although Vista is far from amazing, with its accursed "Oh, you touched the keyboard! That must mean you want me to click! CLICK!" and lack of older help files, WIndows overall wins.

I'm using Vista at the moment, and I have to say, I've had no such problems. The only little nagging thing there is is that it likes to ask you "do you really want to do this?" a lot. And considering it's a security feature, which is designed to help your computer not blow up, it's not really something you can complain about.

Vista User: Aaaaaaand, click there. Yes, I do really want to do that. Hmm, that is ever so slightly irritating.

Non-Vista User: Lol, no annoying security messages for me. Bahahaha. I can do whatever I want! *Computer melts*

Where does all the Windows crashing more than Macs come from anyways?  Mind you, I've never had a computer crash on me.  Heck, I've barely ever seen PCs crash whatsoever.  Yet I've also seen Macs get all anal just like a PC would.

As for the viruses and stuff, Macs don't have that problem because nobody cares.

Why?  PCs can have photoshop, so what is the difference?[/B]

It's easier for me to use photoshop on a mac than a PC, plus in my experience I've been more succesful in printing images from a mac then a pc. Photoshop wasn't made to just piss around with pretty pictures you know.
