Dragon Fantasy REMAKE -Final Demo-
« on: July 02, 2007, 11:10:49 PM »
Dragon Fantasy

Story:
Many years ago a great entity of sin emerged from the darkest depths of the world and tried to cover eveyone and everything in perpetual darkness. Darkness covered the land, causing the seas to rage, the forests to wither and the earth to decay. However, as from where the darkness was born there also came light: Born from the planet it's self came four great crystals of light. This light shone through the darkness and caused the entity of sin to return to the nothingness whence it came. The crystals bore themselves back into the depths of the earth and then began to sleep, protecting all from the darkness of the world. After the darkness had receeded, the light slowly began to return to the world. The people regained hope and begin to rebuild what they had lost.

Now, many years after this incident, the story of the great darkness and the light in which broke it's grasp upon the world has been handed down to the newer generation. As the crystal slowly began to re-awaken, a child was born within the village of Yur. This child bore the sign of a saint and was a token of light for the villagers. Now, in order to test his heart, courage and strength he has been guided into the Crystal Caverns in order to receive the crystal's blessing.

Gameplay:
Nothing very new, actually. It has standard Turn-based battles in which have no battle-background or fancy battle animations. Some battles will be tough while others will be easy. Some places will also require you to gain multiple levels before entering them. The game is basically something in which I made to try and mimic older, NES-type RPGs. It has a hint of Dragon Quest/Warrior and also a bit of Final Fantasy. No longer are the Items, Spells and Weapons/armors 4-letter words.

Maps:
The mapping is supposed to be reminicent to that of NES-type RPG's such as Final fantasy 1-3 and Dragon Quest/Warrior. Nothing is too detailed, nor is it too simplistic. If your looking for the best mapping around, don't come here.

Characters:

Hero (in whom you get to name and pick a gender for.)
Starting Level:1
Max Level: 50
Able to equip: Swords, Shields, Gloves, some Axes, Clubs, Armor, Helmets, Shields, Relics.
Best At: Attacking, Casting some magic.

Max Level: 50
Able to Equip: Gloves, Daggers, Rods, Armor, Helmets, Relics, Shields.
Best At: Attacking with Magic.
Bio: Daughter of King Yurudos, she is the heir to the throne in whom was captured by the great Vlad.

Sando
Starting Level: 3
Max Level: 50
Able to Equip: Everything but Rods and Daggers.
Best At: Pure physical attacks.
Bio: One of the Kings men who were sent out to retrive Aika from Vlad. However, the monsters in the Eastern Cave proved to be too strong for him to handle until the Hero came along.

Yoor
Starting Level: 6
Max Level: 50
Able to Equip: Rods, Daggers, Clubs, Gloves, Armor, Shields, Relics, Helmets.
Best At: Healing.

Are you using Rpgm2k? Because I myself hate when you donīt see the heroes in your party and just the monsters wich doesnīt have any animations either.
Kinda like Earthbound, good game but awful battlesystem...

Wouldnīt it be better to remake the FF1-FF3(jap) battlechars isntead and have backrounds like in FF1? It would give a better feeling to the game.

And yeah, this is a good game for people who wants that NES feeling, but really, I donīt.

But good luck with this and put your best effort to it.

If it is a Dragon Warrior/Fantasy remake, then there wouldn't be battle characters. I think that's what he is trying for, at any rate.

I think this is a pretty interesting take at the old NES game look and feel. I hope for your sake that it gets finished and isn't too predictable, like a lot of titles from the NES era are. And even if it is, hey, it adds just that much more to the theme, right?

I myself once felt like that, actually. I don't know why I started to like it though, but I did.

The game takes it's names from two things: Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Sure, I know it's not that original, but I just joined the names and made "Dragon Fantasy". The battle system is supposed to be similar to that of the ones of the earlier Dragon Quest/Warrior  games. They had no battle animation or battle backgrounds. 1 did, yes, but 2, 3, and 4 did not.

I might do that if I ever get around to a second one. I shall indeed try to make it good =)

I also hope that it won't be -too- predictable. However, what I have planned for the ending should not be all that predictable. Could be, I dunno, I just hope I get around to finishing it to see if it is or not.

Thank you for the download. Everyone has their preference, I know that not everyone will like the battle system. But hey, I do =)

Thanks. I'm going to add more stuff later such as side quests and such. In this demo there IS a side quest...but the monster you fight is very, very tough for that section of the game. In case your wondering HOW to do it, here it is:

-After btaining Yoor a Jester will appear within Yur Town.

-Go down to the small piece of land sticking out into the water in which is down by the entrance to the Eastern Cave.

-Upon that very point (the last 4 squares) run around there untill you fight the HORNED LUCK. After the battle there is a chance that you will obtain the item LUCKY STONE. However, you might not get it. Just fight them until you do (LV. 9-10 is a good LV to be here).

-Go to the jester in Yur and trade him the LUCKY STONE for a SUMMON STONE. If you happen to have more than 1 LUCKY STONE it is all right though, you can sell those off for 10G a piece.

-Eter Borez Pass. In the last section before entering upon the world map there will be a triangular sign on the wall. Examine it and use the SUMMON STONE. You will fight the optional boss.

-After this fight you recieve the DRAGON STONE. This will be used in the future.

And that is about it. I plan on putting in much more quests and such once I get the main story taken care of.

Ah yes, and I have a few dated videos. Here they are:

I'll play the demo, but if it stops at a real bad cliff hanger it's your head.  (>O_O)>  Oh, speaking of the summoning stone, was this in the original game, because I remember one game I played on RPGmaker where the main character got a stone and used it on triangles on certain walls and was warped to various places...  Might've been The Way, not sure. :

Nothing like that was in the original. I just made the names up from the top of my head. Just wanted to put that little extra there for something to do.

Oh, and a cliff-hanger is highly unlikely. The story is not that involving. mind you, this is supposed to be a NES type game >.>

I think you need older sounding sound effects and midis. The transitions also don't capture the mood in my opinion, but overall, the game and graphics themselves do capture the feeling. Not bad!
