[Demo] El Viento Escarlata
« on: September 20, 2007, 12:17:17 AM »
Game maker's Note:Mind you this is rather short Demo and Doesn't get to far into the story. Try to maybe think of it as a gameplay demo instead, but even that I'm still working on. This is my first real game and I am trying to push my limits a little. Oh, and if you open the file in rpgmaker, Don't try to understand the code, I get lost half the time -_-. Enjoy! Hmm, nice first post here right? Some of you may know but still, have fun!

The Faith:
In the beginning of existence, there were only the Dioses and the Almas. The Alma's purpose was to create and watch over the creation of the universe. The purpose of the Dioses was to give life to the empty universe. Three thousand years into the universe's manifestion. The Dioses decided to originate the human race, as away to maintain order amongst the species.  The Dioses began to observe how the humans on the first inhabited planet behaved.

They had discovered that the humans were confused, savage, and unable to maintain and govern their own society properly. (in the eyes of the dioses, but the norm here in the real world) After yet another massive war broke out amongst the humans, killing tens of thousands, the Dioses decided it was time to intervene. The Dioses decided to have each and every human on earth be accompanied by their own Alma. It inhabits their body and keeps them from causing harm or suffering.

The world has been in a consistent state of peace. When ever one would act out or try to
harm the rest of society, the Alma inside would send judgment upon that individual.

The Story:
The story of El Viento Escarlata follows 17 year old girl named Esperanza Arellano, She lives in a small town called Chilaverte in Spain(made up), she is an only child. Her parents are the head ministers of the local church "Iglesia del Alma". Esperanza's childhood was of course a peaceful one. The reason why this girl is special(and the story follows her) is that she is the only human earth who does not have an Alma, they call her the girl with no soul.

The village produces very little products so people are sent to other villages for supplies. Esperanza is never sent on her own because they don't believe she can't defend herself properly, but she demands to go on a special trip to the capital Madrid. She is escorted by her best friend, Rosalind, to travel to Madrid to retrieve holy water for a sick child. On their way to Madrid they encounter a mysterious woman with pitch black eyes and a strange power. They are saved by a man in red wielding a forbidden weapon.

On the return from Madrid, Rosalind begins to develop the same sickness that the same child in the village has. After a series of events (trying not to spoil too much) when you return to your village you find that the sickness has turned everybody against Esperanza. She runs home to see how her parents are and discovers that they are nowhere to be found. The mad villagers surround you in your house and begin to attack you until the the man in red from before rescued/kidnapped Esperanza, knocks her out, and takes her far away.

Esperanza awakes several days in a mysterious underground base, with a new restricting outfit and more power. The underground organization is made up of 8 leaders and a little over 300 soldiers. You are told (not asked) to lead the organization in the fight for mankind. You are forced to complete seven important task (which includes learning spiritual techniques to take over of powerful nations.) They say that you are the only one who can attain the power of a Dios.

You will of learn of Alma organization Orden de la Luna and their plan to overthrow the Dioses,
and the human they use as tools in the war against the gods.

Cast of Characters:

The Cast of Characters:
Esperanza Arellano
age:17 sex: female
little profile: Esperanza is a kind but talkative, and pretty likable. She is very reliable and helps around in her town. It may be the fact she has no Alma but she seems be much more religious than others. She likes to preform the weekly seminario at church. She's a talented hand to hand fighter, most likely because this is her only option for self defense(blades and weapons are forbidden). As for intellect, she is slightly above average but not by much, she mainly focuses on her religious studies. Her closest relationship is to her father.

Rosalind Padilla
age: 18 sex: female
little profile: Rosalind is Esperanza best friend. She moved to Chilaverte six years ago and befriended Esperanza because  they were very alike. After Rosalind's mother passed away, she decided to get a job at the local in, which is very stressful but pays well. She is not much of a fighter, but a great healer, which makes her well at her job. She does not like to travel outside of Chilaverte because she fears the animals, although she is can defend herself.

Sai: a young man you play in the intro, looking for answers.

Wow... it almost seems odd to me how we're being flooded with good games from new members that all start with [Demo] or [Full], though that is the nomenclature.

Wow, even though that was quite a short little Demo, I was highly impressed. Things were very 'cinematic,' which is a hard thing to achieve in RM, and let me say -- you achieved it.

The story is quite interesting; not too cliche, and not too complicated. The maps are decent, but the puzzles are pretty fun! The graphics are, of course, very nice and the music is very well placed.

All and all, that was a fun 20 minutes. I'll have my eye on this one, good job.

The only thing that bugged me was the saturation on the charsets, and soemtimes the battle chars.

Try to decrease it so the charsets fit the chipset's colours. Will improve a lot.

Seems like people are going further afield to advertise their games. It's a pity we're not producing as many ourselves, but it's nice having these games on here anyway ^^

Damn! you got through it in 20 minutes! I made it and I takes me at least 35 if I play the intro! You gotta tell me how to do that. I'm glad you like the game though. Chances are my mapping will get better in time once I find different ways to use stuff, thanks again.

i'll make sure to keep you updated.

The Opening
« Reply #14 on: September 27, 2007, 08:25:04 AM »
I loved the consistent look and feel of the opening.
Pacing was good, Nice maps,
The "wide screen" look was used perfectly.
It did seem very Cinematic.

The music was good too,
The second puzzle was great! The balancing one.
The other puzzles with the spikes were a bit defective (Right after a turn there would be spikes and in order to Face them to jump over them, You would walk into them first, Thankfully you made the Woman face the spikes after she hit them.) I don't think the spikes do anything but no one likes to willingly walk onto them.

I only reached the Beginning after the end of the Beginning. (:P)
Cause apparently My rtp doesn't have the file "Animal" In charas.
I love the saturated effect and have already experemented with that and Simultaneous color Tints.
(There are some cool combinations to work with.)

I can't really think of anything else I can comment on, Nice
