Sounds cool... Although I can't see a huge difference between that and XP graphics wise from those screens. Maybe I just haven't looked at XP graphics for a while...

If I got it I've got no doubt I'd be inspired to start an entirely new game and I'd be eager at first but it'd probably slow to the snail pace that my current game's moving at so I don't think i'll bother :p

Are the RMXP graphics compatible with VX? Cause resources will take long to appear in mass and stuff...

Hmmm...I got myself in a big dilemma right now...

I got this great story idea, and I'm really excited about starting making it. I thought I'd start it on RPGM XP, cause scripts and resources are all over (which is huge for me, cause I can't sprite or script). But I'm pretty sure VX will come crushing everything real soon and quick. It lacks scripts and resources, but these will flood soon enough...

So, help me out: as far as you've seen, is VX so much better than XP that makes it worth waiting for the scripts to be converted (i can use XP resources, which i like better btw) or should I start right now with XP?

It looks cool, but I've pretty much lost intrest in rpg maker now :-p. In the amount of time it takes to make a full game, someone could easily learn how to make a 'real' game.

The only thing I'm concerned about with this new maker (and other new makers) is that it gets harder and harder to make things on your own, and easier and easier to use the default systems. For example, with rmxp, I saw so many games that looked exactly alike because they all had the same graphics and stuff because it was so much harder to make custom graphics.

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

For Almeidaboo, I'm not sure how XP works but I'm pretty sure VX uses the same style of scripting. I'm using it right now, and there is a feature called "Use Script" under the Advanced section when you open up the event commands. When I clicked on it, there is only a big white box that you can type in. I'm assuming you just copy and paste your scripts there. Remember, this still has all the 2k3 commands. "Script" is just a specific new one.

The only script section that feels out of my head is the one that controls the DBS. It's a little scary looking. It looks like a list of several different scripts running at once that you can click on and edit.

I think you can use XP graphics with this system. I know for a fact that your charasets can be any size you want them to be. It was in a sample game. I'm guessing you just need to find a new XP script for pixel movement to match it.

That "use script" button is used to call up scripts that need activation to work. Like, for instance, the INN script. Everytime you want it to activate, you use the "use script" button and it'll have effect.

I did use RMXP a lot, and I learned some about ruby, but still it's nothing.

As for the graphics, yes I can use RMXP ones, but they need adjustments that I still didn't understand...I went to creation asylum and read a whole discussion about switching or not to VX. The discussion ended in the following terms: VX contains several restrictions, but these made the engine "user friendly", or, in a guy's words, "noob friendly". XP does give you more freedom, but it's a advanced engine. Said that XP can use any graphics, while VX cannot. VX simple, XP freedom.

I don't know yet...Some things that are really really tiring, like making chests and doors all the time are much simpler with VX (this feature actually gave me a hard on...). But XP has got it all here and now, I wouldn't have to wait of produce things of my own (which I can't do)...

My balls are itching, I can't decide...

Well, as for the discussion I talked about: creation asylum

Whatcha thinko?

EDIT: ZKX, yes you did man, thanks for reminding me!! It's on my photobucket acc...YES IT IS!!

I see your point. If you don't really have the programming experience to not use the Database, but want more freedom than the 2k3/VX systems, then you Almeidaboo should stick with XP. This is my personal suggestion.

For 2k3ers who can code away from the Database, you should use VX. Here are my thoughts on that thread.

This is half true. RMVX goes back to 2k3 style eventing. If you want to use the Database provided, you have several restrictions. If you don't use the database, you actually have more freedom. You use the 2k3 eventing to code initially, but you can almost script XP style using RGSS2 provided with the system. Like you said though, it's not the same as XP, and you can't import XP scripts just yet. The help file tells you how to get there.

It depends. There is actually a little trick to the graphics. If you stick a $ or a ! symbol in front of the names of your resources, this will change the sprite size or the tile structure. I managed to get a giant door for my main character. lol

I can't argue with this. You will have to do something to make your own graphics. There's also the 2 layer system problem. You can't do things like walking behind trees without a little extra effort.

About, thanks a lot for replying...You really gave me a new vision on the matter. Tnks a lot, really.

Here, have a box of cookies.

EDIT: By the ****ing way, don't let this thread die! Let's keep on discussing stuff around RPG Maker, both XP and VX, so that we can get to some kind of conclusion.

I'm liking this a lot more than XP and 2k3.
