I hate you.

I'm gonna hit you with my car.
Okay whatever.
Gee! sounds like fun! (yeah right)...

If #10 was on ps1 it might have been good. what bothers me is when people dis #8 just because they cant understand the plot. Because of this they think its a weak story. Its the one with the most complex plot with the most beilivable characters. The characters are well developed. And contuary to what others say squall never pulls a gohan. I also liked the sci fi. Id explain more but psps have character limits and most people dont care which is sad. Understand its well developed before hating.

Even if I grant you that 8 had well-developed characters and a complex plot, which I do NOT, it's still a video game that's confusing and not fun to play. A complex story and developed characters alone does not a good video game make. Those things make good games great, but they can't make bad games good. Most of the things that the game has you do, like drawing from enemies ad infinitum and leveling up only to find out that your enemies also level up, is just plain not fun to perform. Some of the cutscenes were kinda cool. Maybe it would have made an okay movie, or a graphic novel, or a book, or something that did not require a player to interact with it. As a video game though, they made a lot of design choices that took away from the fun of playing a video game. Whatever else you can say about it, that means it fails.

Saikar pretty much just hit it on the nail.
Dragonium too, in the sense that it was the black sheep.
I personally didn't like it.
Story didn't really make much sense in some places (...and you who are supposed to be our villain is?...), and the gameplay was omfg ridiculous (but not as bad as XII, although that's kind of hard to beat...but it comes close).
...
What was going to attempt to be a thoughtful well developed post ended up kinda short...
much liek teh game, ooh burn, you al lloos btw

I used to hate FF8 and now it's probably my second favourite FF. Try replaying it, and for good measure don't ever summon GFs in battle. Use attack and magic instead. Work out the junctioning system and ignore most of the tutorials. Then suddenly it becomes awesome.

Or not, if it's not your thing, which might just be the case. The ridiculous split in opinion on the quality of FF12 is enough evidence to show that the fact that an FF is good to most people doesn't mean a fan of the series will like it.

Pepole don't like FF12? What kind of jerk wouldn't want to play a game with no world map and an automatic fighting system? Personally, I love running across the desert for hours on end, only to be killed by a bird because I have no ranged weapons.

Especially when the last save point was 4 hours ago.

Don't forget the level 50-something fireball thingies when you're level 10ish!

A million times this. You can win by spamming GFs but when you get your Junctions set up right and you actually learn to play properly it is immensely satisfying. Especially when Zell has 255 Strength and uses his Limit Break. Then you are if anything overpowered.

It becomes a lot less tedious when you start using Card Mod and Item-RF skills. Drawing becomes moot. And the level-scaling is really not a problem if you're consistently improving by using the Junction system to its full potential.

I'll say it again - it was not a bad game, you just didn't like it. Just because you don't find something fun does not mean it is not fun for others.

You got it right no eveyrone likes everything just a diffrence of opion.
I do however think FF8 got the short end of the stick though any game following the way ridiculously overpopular game FF7 was bound to make people alot of people dissapointed especially since as soon as FF7 ended their mind was already set unconsciously that they were going to hate FF8 because it wasn't FF7.

Drawing was annoying though but that was only one thing there game had so many great things and scenes.

By that definition nothing is bad or good because, no matter how crappy something is, at least one person somewhere will think it has more good than bad. That's some pretty weak sauce language. While it's important to be respectful of people's opinions, that doesn't mean that I can't have my own. I believe it was a bad game. A lot of other RPG players think this too. Square seems to even think this because they threw away a lot of bad systems from FF8 and didn't put them in future games.

I do R&D projects at work. Sometime I make bad material. I learn something from it and move on, but that doesn't stop the thing I made from being bad. I view FF8 is sort of the same thing. Square tried a lot of stuff but people didn't like it so they moved on. A learning experience for us all, but doesn't stop the game from being unpopular.

I really wish I was not on a psp and at school otherwise I could defend this WELL DEVELOPED Game. It is all a matter of opinion. I thought #8 was great because it had more emphasis on attacking and summons then magic. I thought #12 sucked because the characters were boring and I thought the side quest were fun. I disliked #6 (For Shame!) because the story, while well devolped, didnt appeal to me. Im not saying you cant like it, Im just saying I cant like It. Too bad the FF 6 fan boys are the most angry.

Yup, to bad Im being an ultra noob right now and adding a bizzilion differnt characters from FF 7-10. Theirs so many sprites out their and I mainly just want it to be like a crappy old school FF with sprites of the 3d characters... Tidus is likable as a sprite... Im bassically doing what Missingname is doing, but without billy mays and less original.

And to put this thread to more contraversy and because I cant just make a new thread for this, Im deciding to make my own costume sprites for...           Everybody Loves Raymond (seriously). No hopefully they wont be in this game but you have to wonder... A everybody loves raymond fan game... Okay thats problably too much, but I will also try Babylon 5 sprites which would be nice non important extras. But Its gonna kill me making this hair...
