"Swine Flu"? Oh, you mean the H1N1 virus.

Even the media seems to have forgotten that name.

Oh well, get better soon. Even the regular flu is a kick in the stomach.

Nah I work at a hospital and I swear to god70 people brought their kids in last night to get them checked for the swine flu because someone said it was going through schools.
None of them had it.

Not as much as you think they bring their kids in after they heard about because the kid had a cold.

Human nature.

Of course. I'm sure I'd respond similarly. You know, just in case.

Of course, I'd look for symptoms of the virus, and I'd look for symptoms that don't match up with it. But then again, I'm smarter than the average bear. Parent.

Well it was annoying because it went like this.

Parent: I heard a few days ago they had Swine flu in the schools now so I brought my kid in to be checked be he doens't have any symptoms.

Other Parent: My kid has a runny nose does he have swime flu?

Funny story: Right as our family reunion was rolling along, my sister got sick with something. She was told to go into the doctor by her mother, who told her it was, in fact, swine flu, despite the fact that they didn't even check (opting on the safe side. She could only get a nurse). Anyway, for the entire reunion, she wore a mask to stop coughs, and one of my brothers actually didn't come to the reunion.

Funny thing is, nobody got sick. Except possibly the brother that didn't come. How Ironic.

Anyway, swine flu or not, it's very much a normal flu-like disease. The only cases of swine flu that were really checked and reported (from mexico, where the whole thing started out) were only cases that were proving to be FATAL. Thus, many cases of this swine flu went unreported, since it was very much similar to a normal flu. Psh. Psychotic media.

Also, this should potentially illustrate the potential risks of Swine Flu.

Not to be a condescending prick, but that's what you get for working at a hospital. The world is full of ignorant pricks, and whenever a big media scare arises, every Tom, Dick, and Harry becomes a hypochondriac of epic proportions. You really should have gone into that field expecting this from day one. A friend of mine was a nurse at a hospital near here (now a corpsman in the Navy and the but of many a gay joke), and he went in knowing what to expect (his mom is a nurse at another hospital). He had horror stories, but only when someone asked. When you know what you're getting into, you don't tend to talk about it. Well, unless it's something totally surprising.

You know, like sex panthers.

It's better to be safe than sorry, no matter how ignorant you are. Those parents just wanna make absolutely sure their kids won't die.
And don't even joke about sex panthers.

Sixty percent of the time, they work every time.

Hey, I have a swine flu story. My girlfriend's little sister was scared she had swine flu so I was like "aww don't worry" then I coughed straight in her face and she cried.

Then later she filled my bag with kitty litter.

you think you'd crumble
you think you'd lay down and die
Oh no, not you
you will survive
as long as you know how to love
you know you will stay alive
you've got all your life to live
you've got all your love to give
and you'll survive
you will survive
