Beat all eight gyms. Jasmine was the toughest for my team. I think I remember Clair being a lot harder, but my Espeon slaughtered her. Can't wait to go bombing around Kanto

So far I had the most trouble on Bugsy. He U-turned KO'd 1/2 of my team >_>. I remember him being much easier when he spammed Fury Cutter.
Whitney was cake. Just spam Sand-attack/Smokescreen on her milk jugs and you win.

Also, to resident pokenerds- What are the benefits and drawbacks of not evolving Pokemon? I really don't like the look of Totodile's evolutions, and I'm considering holding him back.

Unless I'm mistaken, you learn moves faster if you don't evolve (and sometimes, you learn moves that you can't learn if you evolve right away), and your stats grow faster if you evolve.

But I could totally be wrong.

Pretty much. Almost all Pokemon that evolve by levelup get better stats upon subsequent levelups but learn moves more slowly. The ones that level up via stones, like Growlithe, often don't learn anything at all after evolution. If you want to hold your Totodile back you can but it will start to fall behind in stats after a while. I'm doing the same thing with my Koffing for exactly the same reason.

I forgot what a beast Ho-oh is. Had a really cool 3D event and battle theme with him this time around. And he looks FREAKING RIDICULOUS following me around, being about 5 times larger than any of the other things I've had following me. Good times.

It's because of the number of badges you have. The more you have, the more often it'll crash. It's how Nintendo is combating Piracy on this. By now, most cards have a fix for the crashing. Unless you have an M3, you should check for any updates and apply them.

Having an M3 myself, I am officially stuck on Soulsilver until they release the patch. Beating Whitney (female Geodude FTW) is the final straw, crashes occur after only three events after beating her. Shame too, because I can't even level with all the crashes.

EDIT: But yeah EQ is beast. As a bonus it also has 10PP compared to those 120base elemental (Blizzard etc..) moves .
I remember when Hyper Beam used to be THE move back in R/B/Y. Almost every kid had it on there Charizard lol.

Yeah my bad, I'm using Stone edge for those basterds.

Also, Hyper Beam doesn't have 100% accuracy anymore. It's 90 or 95. It sounds like it's okay but I still manage to miss with it.

3 pros and 3 cons.

Pros.
1. You can learn some moves earlier that come late for the evolved form. Like how Clefairy gets Meteor Mash on 45 or something while Clefable gets it on 70 or something.
2. Some moves can only be learned by the preeveolved forms. Especially those who go through drastic changes. Like Trapinch can learn both Earthquake and Dig while neither Vibrava or Flygon can learn 'em.(Not through level up, but they can from TM's though. Luckily the nice Nintendo people added the Move Tutors who can learn your pokés moves that you never learned or that you skipped for antoher ability)
3. Preevolved forms can have better abilities. Some gain stupid abilities when they evolve.

cons.
1. Your stats won't be as good, neither will the growth.
2. You can't learn certain moves that will prove awesome. For example Hyper beam or signature moves like sheer cold.
3. You might be stuck with a Sucky ability .
