Plot help please
« on: June 18, 2010, 05:26:44 PM »
First of all I am sorry if this topic is not in the right place. I tried looking for something that would relate to plot development, but was unsuccessful. Any way, to the point... I need a reason for a guy traveling to a mansion that he's never heard of. I have thought of several reasons, but it's critical to the plot that I have sequels so it can't be anything from his past, (that he knows of.) The mansion changes depending on the visitor, challenging them with puzzles and stuff of the sort. If he were to go back to it in a sequel it'd just be the same. If it was because a family member invited him or something similar, it would be stupid to just keep inviting family members so they could be haunted at the family mansion in later sequels. Please help. Feel free to ask questions about the plot, I really don't want to give away a lot if possible. I will if I have to though.

its looks like you need a event  to keep going back  to what you need to find out or not dream event that change's  time to time
in the game  Dream Events it's like you in a Dream that playes over and over but in the Dream you can change the Dream Events  the way you need them you can use flash screen use the event commands to show you are in Dream Events  or shack screen use the event commands then ues the event to say what you need the hero to see or not see in the Dream then end  that dream you can use 2 things to do this end event processing or use the erase event that event then the 1st event will stop playing over and over then  you make a new event numder 2 for the next Dream Event

good thing is he dont now its his Dream but its the ghosts Dream that way he could be haunted at the family mansion
by lot of ghost's of the family mansion
sorry i can not help you more with this as new to event my self

Thank you for trying to help, but I think you misunderstood what I was trying to ask for. I need a reason for him to go to the mansion. Are you trying to say it should just be a dream he's having? If so, I could make the characters of future sequels of the searies go to this other world, that all the characters assume is just a nightmare.

I say letter from unknown source.
Quick, easy, and if handled well, engaging.

I like both ideas a lot. But... The letter thing isn't that from Silent Hill 2? This plot I have is already ripping off of resident evil (the setting being a mansion). Then it rips of silent hill's plot themes already. (Other world, discovering the forgotten past, etc.) I also want the plot to be reasonable. Would you go to some far away house if you got a letter from someone you didn't know? I'd think it was a scam of some sort. Lol.

That plot is from everywhere.
I think it got it's start in old mystery novellas.
Even though it's an old cliche, as I said, if it's handled well it's still a good one.
You could probably make it a forgery from an old friend, of which a hallucination appears at the mansion and proceeds to freak him the hell out.

I'm going to go with the letter idea. Here's how it's going to go,(Tell me if this sounds good.) Alex is a adopted, and he can not remember his childhood after severe trauma forced him to forget most of his past. One day, Alex receives a letter from his biological parents inviting him to their home located in the middle of no where. Alex has seen pictures of his real parents, but never seen them in person. Wanting to meet his real parents, and discover his past Alex goes to the mansion. (The notes forged, and the villain wrote it to get him there.)

How 'bout legend of a treasure in said mansion? It could work, lots of people would go to a mansion with treasures in it.

Uh, what about something with a few levels? Build up some kind of mythology behind the mansion, for example: its haunted but you can win treasure it you make it past some puzzles. Those are rumors or legends anyway, but maybe your character knows a little more, and is trying to figure out the whole truth. Each visit to the mansion could bring him one step closer to finding out who is actually running the place, and how they're doing so.

my 2 cents.

So the letter says hey come to the mansion, it's us. Your real family. Oh by the way, we have some hidden treasure. Lol. I know it sounds like I'm trying to be a jerk, but I'm really not. Is that what you mean?

Don't try and combine every good idea you here.  Simplicity is often best for plot, as it makes it understandable.  Of course, you have to leave some intrigue and what not, and build steadily more complexity as the game goes on.  At the beginning, though, just stick to 'go here, do this' and see where it takes you.
