Is it bad of me that the first thing that came to my head when I heard about the death count in japan was "I hope no mangaka/developer I know died"?

Don't worry, Nintendo of Japan have assured us that everyone and their building are okay.

I just hope there isn't a "charity" organization that goes around collecting money like the one for Haiti. I was watching a video where an American went to the country to see how the reconstruction was going and all of the people there were living in tents and complaining because no progress had been made...so there's a good chance that a lot of those donations were used to line pockets. Somehow, I don't think that's as likely here as the tsunami and earthquakes only devastated part of Japan, and Japan is doing pretty well for itself financially.

Not a religious man, but I can't help but say a prayer for people caught up in disasters like this. If only 'cuz 'best of luck' just doesn't feel appropriate.

Yeah, so about this exploded reactor. Journals here say there is the possibility of radiation. I thought radiation was a given if a reactor exploded?

Apparently, some radiation has leaked but its 'non-harmful' amounts. I'm not sure how radiation goes, but I assumed any radiation was bad. Thankfully, though, they've evacuated people within 10 kilometers of the malfunctioning plants.

From what I gathered from an article, they're praying on a last line of defense containment dome. They didn't seem confident on whether its "containment" capabilities were compromised during the quakes, tho.

But I assumed any radiation was bad.
Well we're exposed to radiation every single day, so if that was true we'd probably all be dead by now.

Can't remember but I'm pretty sure that Japan and some US state as the places most equipped to deal with nature disasters like these. So they will do just fine as long as that reactor is taken care of.

Read up on it, and see how many ways you're wrong.

I know we get natural radiation from the sun and other places. What I mean is it feels like an odd thing to say "some radiation leaked out of the nuclear power plant, but its not harmful."

Think of it with something else that can be dangerous with the right conditions. "The volcano began spewing forth smoke and gases, but not enough to pose immediate health risks to the surrounding area." How's that for an example? Although, in fairness, an active volcano typically has something more worrisome involved.

Occasionally.
Living next to one ain't so bad, though.
Although, if St. Helens DOES blow again, I think I'd be thoroughly freaked.

Yes, I live right next to Mount St. Helens.

ED: I promised myself that I was going to ignore this, but I just can't anymore.
