I would have liked to be able to run freely in the world to farm cheaper monsters to craft cheaper stuff or something, and then take missions for the rarer/better stuff.

You kinda can, some armour sets and weapon paths are based on "cheap" monsters (non large ones), bugs and ores.

Also, monster hunter 4 is supposed to be more of an adventure game inspired by the manga or something.

Game is great, killed brachy for the first time. God what an ***hole he was. Those shockwaves are a no no. Good thing though, managed to get a brachy gem from his horn shiny drop. I think that's a good thing anyway.
Most of the subspecies are kinda fun, they 're like the originals but better. Like ice barroth vs barroth. It's like some wierd *** lazy pokemon evolution only that the developers couldn't figure out what it should look like so they just changed the colour scheme a little. It's not just an alternative species, it's actually an improvement, just look at our good friend Peco. Normal peco is kidna small, calls monsters, sings and deals fire damange. Crimson peco got flints that requires blue sharpness to get through, can call monsters twice, rage song, can do a flash bomb attack and occasionally flies pretty high into the sky while a deviljho is harassing you.

They must've changed the drop rate for luminous organs btw, I remember hoarding those (hoarding!) in the last game, got them all the time. Now I've killed ceadeus 4 times, gotten 2 deep dragon gems and tons of horns, hides, fur etc. But only 1 luminous organ.
Also hate the gems and plates. Lagia plate pretty much never drops, same with rathalos. And my brother was a lucky *** and got a rathalos ruby on his first HR rathalos. I need that for my friggin helmet.

So, what armour set are you sporting and why? Still using the rathalos for attack M and speed sharpener.
Are we all in agreement that the attack + elemental dmg  is the most important factor on weapons? Like, this enemy is weak to ice, but my ice weapon deals 690dmg while my fire weapon deals 820. The 120 ice damage that the ice weapon deals only brings it up to 810 while my fire weapon also got an elemental damage of 120 which brings it yo 940.
Any advice on single player Jhen Mohran btw? Never manages to kill him. And repeling him over and over kinda makes it slow to gather materials. Also, can you unlock him for multiplayer?

I'm a huge fan of Nargacuga with my Evasion +2. Evasion Distance, Sneak and Half Stun (I got them geming skills), Pink Rathian with Hi Windproof, Fire Attack +2, and Adren +2.  Volvidon with Attack (L), Tremor Res, his other perk and heat surge.  Brachy with Adren +2, Bombardier, and the Rage Mode skill.  Zinogre with Gloves off +2, Sharpener, and Thunder Atk +2.  Ivory Lag with Attack (M), Evasion +1, Blightproof, and i think something else.  Bug Armor with Dragon Attack +1, HG Earplugs, something else.  And blah blah blah

Dude, you're sure crafting a lot of armours. I stick to a high attack bonus and whatever else follows.

Finally got some organs from ceadeus. Now I need some ivory lagia scales or something. Then some sand barioth claws for another thing, green plesioth for another one and high high rank crimson quropeco. But still not a single lagia plate to upgrade the bolt axe.

Playing a lot online? Finding some of these monsters kinda annoying going solo.

I seriously just got 2 deep dragongems from ceadeus but no organs. Goddamnit.

occasional online. i seem to hunt better alone or in pairs. g rank is evil.

Village 8 or 9 star mark of a hero quest will make u wanna kill someone. wont be doin that again for awhile... beating it once is enough!

Finally managed to beat Jhen mohran. I think that attacking it with weapons is far more efficient than using the cannons and balista. That's what I did and it worked, had like 3-4 minutes left of the quest. Previous times I've attached speed gatherer and farmed the stuff to shot at it. Always depleted the supplies for each phase and then started attacking it.
So what'ya know. Maybe it's the same for ceadeus? That the ballistas aren't worth it in this game.

I love some of the new masks they added for the shakas. Whetstone mask, stinkbomb mask, pitfall trapmask, artillery mask
Also still needed some materials from Brachy, god he's annoying. Once he rages (which is like always) he becomes so fast and relentles and there's explosions everywhere. So annoying. Btw, the smith guy said that slime weapons are useful for destroying body parts and deal damage to heavy armoured monsters. Is this actually true or just one of those "well it is relatively better".


Btw, the argosy captain is stuck in mooga village, which is kinda annoying because I want to trade some items and traps. Always says "4 days left till departure" but he's not going anywhere. Only beaten lagia, barioth and some others of the current rank. Thought he would start going once I beat brachy which he told me about but that didn't work.

I made Brachy my bitch.  He'll leave after you complete certain quests, i noticed it too.  I think he's there for an important purpose so he stays until he fulfills it.

Yeah I'm gonna have to buy a wii U and monster hunter before that happens though. And I won't have the economy for that for at least 3 months or so.

So the Argosy started leaving once the urgent quest was unlocked. Zinogre, interesting guy there. My biggest issue is kinda obvious, I have a negative lightning resistance with the rathalos set. Never really makes much of a difference in normal case because I try to avoid everything. But new enemies and crappy defense don't go well together.
Defeated him of course, but I fear that my character became intoxicated from all those potions. Zinogre is a cheap,cheap monster though. Didn't drop much at all. I broke both horns, both paws and the tail.

Still going crazy trying to get lagiacrus plates, also duramboros tailbone, and the monster specific gems of course.

No clue where to find the friend code thingy though.

capturing helps with awards. go to the friends tab on the main menu and it will display it when ur on urself.

One thing that bugs me is the monster icons. The nargacuga doesn't look like a nargacuga and everything kinda looks like something done by a class of 5 year olds during arts and craft. The ones is Tri were better, even the ones for old chaps were cooler in freedom unite

Having a bit too much hassle with zinogre and ivory lagia. That lightning damage against my -10 res is kinda annoying. Any ideas what to swap to? Been thinking about some of the different sets but I think I love attack and sharpener too much to let go.

Nargacuga is fast btw, really fast. Still gonna kill me some deviljhos sooner or later. Got any advice which quest I should go with? A quropeco quest seems like the most obvious choice perhaps


Gotta say that I am very pleased with the circle pad pro. A bit wierd that it runs on an AAA battery but I've played monster hunter for more than 130 hours now and I still haven't been forced to change it.
