I'm making a desert town for my game.  It's still in production but this is what I have so far.  Comments?  Suggestions?  Oddities?  Give me your opinions people!

The wall tiles look weird, that it doesn't connect.  Like there is no roofs.

The walls are looking like optical illusions.

Here's what I mean (weird things in blue, optical illusions in red:)

Well, the buildings at the top I havent touched yet.  Like I said, the map is still in production so I just have the base of it set up.  Most of the buildings will be accessible through front doors or side doors.
As for the building heights...the only one that I see is weird is the one to the right, on the bottom, that you pointed out.  The clothesline looks fine to me because the buildings are separated and far apart enough for there to be a height difference...also they are different size buildings.
FYI this is a hard chipset to work with!

For the clothesline, the slope should be in the opposite direction, because the building at the right is taller.
It can't crawl down to a higher point, now can it?

Some objects are too bright or too dull compared to the rest of the graphics in the map.  Change the colors, make them look more natural.  Its like when you are painting a wall.  You don't normally paint bright pink in a room full of dark tinted objects.  (Not best example... but whatever.)

Also, here is a picture of what I hope my battle system to look like when I'm done.

What do you think?  Robur's sprite is being reworked to be smaller, so it'll look better.  And his arm is fixed, I just didn't have the updated file at the moment.

EDIT:  Hahaha, I misspelled Roselana's name.  Bahaha
The battle sprites looks 8bit, but the BG seems more 16 bit. But I do like where you are going with it.
Been a while hasn't it? I did make progress on my game. For now on I'll be useing Dev-art for my pics.

I think some of the buildings lilsniffs pointed out as oddities not because their technically "wrong", but because they're visually unappealing. Just move some roofs around to make it easier to tell which buildings are higher than other buildings and it will feel a lot less cluttered.

I think you're off to a great start, perhaps a change in the ground tile as well as the aforementioned suggestions would be all you need. I udnerstand why you chose that, but with such a maze of buildings to try navigate through, the swirling sand just adds to the confusion. Just find something simpler.

Yeah... finding backgrounds to match is a bit time consuming. =/  I have lots of more important things to do right now.

Thanks for all the helpful advice guys.  I've edited the map a little and added more to it.  Here's what I have so far.  As I add more to it, it seems to be coming more to life...which is expected, haha.  You can clearly see the left side is more "alive" then the right.  For now though, how does it look?

This is the least desertlike desert I have ever seen. Less trees!

The left side is a bit crowded, people would probably spread things out a bit more.

Too many trees huh?  You do have a point.  Time to lumberjack!
And the left side is more crowded because I haven't mapped much of the right side yet.  In case you haven't noticed, I'm making the map from left to right, so the further I get the more of the right side will be developed, lol.

I dunno, trees are pretty common around oases.  And seeing how this is a desert town, I'm guessing it was built on/near an oasis.

It looks like a palm forest though, they wouldn't be nearly that thick.
