Lol, yeah, the DBS is rpg maker's defult program. A CBS, is a customly made battle system made from within rpg maker.

My CBS will only be usable in rm2k3, but I don't think that'll be a problem for you. So you should be able to use it when its done if you want to :)

The cbs is still under construction, but I don't have much left to do. I have the special commands, the items, running, and enemy AI left. The special commands is basically an exact copy of the skill menu which I recently finished. The item menu is just a minor edit from that. Adding the running command wouldn't be a problem at all. And then the enemy AI shouldn't be too hard either.

DragonBlaze, I've never told you this because it never really came up... I think releasing something like this is an AWFUL idea. It'll get used in finished games like three times, and then no one will want to see it anymore.

Meh, it's not like I'm just planning to give it to other people. I need a cbs in my own game. Of course, my cbs will be a bit differant, but this will be the basis of it. Plus, I get a lot of cbs requests from people, if I have this cbs as a template, I can finish those requests in a day or two. I thought it'd just be best to release my "template" to the rpg maker community instead of just keeping it to myself.

And really, my cbs is basically set up like the dbs, just with more features like limit breaks, animated monsters, stealing, scanning, 'on map' battles, and a bunch of stuff built in. So yeah, people may get sick of seeing it, but I don't think  they'll be more sick of this system than the defult system.

And on the side, my cbs has a lot of differant layout options build in, so its not going to look or run the same in every game. You can have the tiled menus like in my screnshot, you can have the single menu box, you can line up the menu(s) on the side or top of the screen, you can have a time gauge or turn based battle system.

All of that is just built in crap, people can make their own stuff for this battle system to make it unique and all for their own games. I never wanted this system to be used as is for every game, I want people to use it as a basis to make their own battle systems. Basically, I want there to be more of a variety in battle systems I see in games.

Is there any way I could use a 4 character party instead of 3? This is the only reason I'm raping the DBS instead of just using yours.

I'm pretty sure the one DB is making has four characters.

The one he has for his game is the one with only 3.

Yeah, thats the downside of my cbs, there is only 3 characters 'at a time' (read end of post for more details). The reason is the pictures mainly. For each character you need 4 pictures for the hp, 3 for the mp, 2 for the hp and mp bar, 1 for the time bar, and finally one for the box/name. All in all, thats 11 pictures per character. If I had 4 characters, that would mean that 44 pictures would be dedicated to just showing the info for the characters. I need at least 3 pics for the enemies and 4 for the damage. So that would be 51 pics right there. Thats not even counting pics needed for cursors, heros, menus, and other needed things.

I could have set it up so that the cbs uses double digit pictures instead of single digit pictures, but replacing text and such would be hard for users. Plus, having 4 characters would require about 10,000 extra forks in the battle system.

HOWEVER!!! Heres the cool part... Though my battle system can only have 3 characters AT A TIME, you can switch your characters mid battle if you want. This means that all your characters can be involved in the battle instead of just the 3 or 4. Its not the same, but I think its a good compramize.

Edit: Or heres a possiblity I just thought of. It would only work with tiled menu displays and charsets for the heros (not pictures), plus, it'd probably have to be turn based not time based. There could be up to 6 characters on the field at a time, however, only the information for 3 could be displayed at a time. You could scroll through the menus though to switch which ones are displayed (and which ones you select).
